Serious bugs in 'Find text' and index folder generation

[quote user="FJR"]

I suppose FROM and SUBJECT in your example are encoded, because they include non-7bit-characters.

OK. Thank you.

This is probably the reason why I often cannot find what I am looking for when my search terms contain Danish characters.

Hi!

As you would have been able to see, on the screen shots, which I cannot attach because they are too big, I have 1 (or 2!) mail message(s), both with the following headers:

    From:    Karsten Klintø <kakl01@frederiksberg.dk>
    To:    Henrik Rosenø <henrik.roseno@webspeed.dk>
Subject:    Ikke til stede: Miljøvenlige alternativer ti l salt mod is på fortovene
    Date sent:    Thu, 5 Jan 2012 20:35:00 +0100

(The 2 messages also have same contents.)

But, as you can also not see on the screen shots, Pegasus - Edit-menu -> Find text (Ctrl-F) cannot find this/these message(s), if I search for 'Karsten ikke til stede', regardless of whether I search in headers only or not. This is strange!

And it gets stranger:

If I view the second message and Escape message-view, the cursor is now on the first message.

Checking folder consistency and re-indexing the folder doesn't change any of the above.

And if I delete one of them, in folder-view, they both disappear.

Best regards,

Henrik Rosenø

That search would require that the "Multiple terms" options be selected and the "Text case is significant" not be selected so those are something to check.  You might test using the other search constraints and searching for 'Karsten' in the From field and 'ikke til stede' in the Subject field and see if the search is successful.

Regarding the behavior of the cursor, when you escape a message-view the previously active window should then become the active window so if the first message is in the active window when you open the second message then when you escape the second message the first message window will become the active window.

As for the deletion, it sounds like you are viewing the message in a link folder and have this option enabled:  "Deleting a link from a Link Folder also deletes the original message".  Search results appear in a link folders but the folder list makes search results folders obvious  so I assume that you would know if you are viewing a message from a search results folder.   I don't know whether there is a way that you might have inadvertently created a link folder that is behaving like a search results folder.  Maybe someone else has some ideas on this.

If this forum system allowed larger attachments, then you would be able to see that of course these options are chosen as you suggest.

Somewhat weird comment... I am simply viewing an ordinary folder, and from there I am choosing to look at specific messages.

I don't think I have ever created a 'link folder'. The only type of 'link folder' I know, is search results.

I suppose FROM and SUBJECT in your example are encoded, because they include non-7bit-characters.

If you use the FIND in Pegasus and enter some words to search for in the upper input box, Pegasus searches on the raw text of the mails! Let's have a match:

Words to find: 'Karsten ikke til stede'

FROM: ...Karsten_Klint...

SUBJECT: ..._Ikke_til_stede:_

You see? No match, because there is no single word (there are at least underscores, but should be blanks) in the raw text.

To find those words in encoded headers you may:

  • create regular expressions
  • put those words  (if searched in subject and/or from) in the appropraite inputfields near bottom of searchmask
  • do it via message -> selection ... (if correctly translated - have german Pegasus)
