Replacing imported mail on the Yahoo server.

Thank you for your patience Guy.

Yes, I now see that option.

I am beginning to think that I should leave well alone and just stick to Yahoo mail.

While I'm sure that Pegasus is fine, I don't know that it offers me any benefits.  I had seen its praises sung and thought I would investigate.

Regards.

I found out, to my horror, that importing my Yahoo mail also wiped them off Yahoo's server.   I have tried sending them to myself (by forwarding) but they refuse to budge from Pegasus.

How can I get them to go?

Additionally, I know that some items of mail had images in their main body, images which haven't appeared in the imported version.  How can I ensure that images are not stopped?

I suppose (hope) that there's a setting somewhere which will enable me to leave mail on Yahoo and import just a copy to Pegasus.  Is that correct, and if so where is that setting?

How did you access the mails from Yahoo! Mail?
If via POP3 then there is an option in the POP3 definition General tab []Delete mail...
There may also be some setting at Yahoo! Mail Plus to the effect
"When messages are accessed with POP" do something
(I do not have Yahoo! Mail Plus [POP3 access])
You can set up Yahoo! as an IMAP account and transfer mails back to the server
imap.mail.yahoo.com:993 via DirectSSL
Also if the images are not attached, but are linked to
www.myphotos.yahoo.com they are not part of the mail message.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, access is via POP3.

How do I change it to an IMAP account?

I rarely ever access Yahoo! Mail and do not have the Yahoo! Mail Plus; there may be some setting which are needed to be selected within the Web interface.
Just as an example; with GMail one must select options to allow POP3 and IMAP access, else only Web access is permitted.
I'll show to you the settings I use with Yahoo! Mail IMAP.
Wherever there is the [**] you should review the Help file to understand the settings, as you may desire a different configuration.
After you make the settings and OK your way out, press the Connect button in the Manage IMAP Profiles dialog (Tools > IMAP Profiles).
Once the Yahoo! IMAP Mailbox is mounted you should see all of the folders which exist in the Web interface. You can then "drag and drop" the messages from Pegasus back into the IMAP folders.

Thank you Guy.

I have created an IMAP profile, following your advice.  I tried again to forward the messages back to Yahoo but they still haven't been sent.

I don't know what to do next.

There is no forwarding involved, think of it as moving a file in Explorer from one directory
to another via the drag-and-drop implementation.
Start Pegasus.
If the Yahoo! IMAP account profile is not already connected;
Tools > IMAP profiles... | select the Yahoo! profile and press the Connect button.
In the local Pegasus mail folder: New mail, or Main Folder, or... -- where you have the messages that
were previously download from Yahoo! via POP3; the messages that you wish to be returned to the Yahoo! server.
Select the message(s) and "drag-and-drop" them to the appropriate folder under the Yahoo! IMAP account.

The basic sequence involved in drag and drop is:
o Move the pointer to the object
o Press, and hold down, the left button on the mouse or other pointing device, to "grab" the object,
o "Drag" the object to the desired location,
o "Drop" the object by releasing the button.

Thank you once again Guy.

That's got them back ok.

Will new mail in the Yahoo server again be removed when it's imported by Pegasus?  I don't remember seeing anything which refers to this.

You need to decide whether you want to access Yahoo! via POP3 or IMAP.

With POP3 mail is usually downloaded to the local machine and deleted from the server.
Like snail mail and your post box. Letters are not left there, they are retrieved and sorted, trashed, etc. The box gets emptied.

Whether the mail is deleted or not from the server is defined in the POP3 definition.
On the General tab there is the option:
[ ] Delete mail on server once it has been successfully retrieved
If you always want to leave the mail on the server you want to make sure that option is unselected.

However if that is the case, you may find that POP3 is not the protocol for you and IMAP may be a better choice.
With IMAP one accesses the mail folders directly on the server.

Perhaps this link will help explain: Advantages over POP
