Pop3 network or protocol error

If I open the Charter IMAP Inbox, then attempt to perform a login at the same mailbox via POP3, I can receive the error "-ERR [IN-USE] account is locked by another session or for maintenance, try again". Note the error does not occur when the IMAP client is accessing a different folder; as POP3 is only aware of the Inbox.

The "require sign-in" has to do with SMTP; if "no" you will need to enter a username and password in order to send email.

I frequently get this message when I'm trying to read my mail. A box pops up claiming, >> 0083 -ERR [IN-USE] account is locked by another session or for maintenance, try again.

My guess is it is related to my cell phone being set up to check my pop3 account also. Is there a way to make a change somewhere in Pegasus that it avoids showing me this message?

I often have a few minutes delay before Pegasus down loads any messages because my account is locked. This must be a fairly common issue...?

This box pops up several times when I'm going through my mail messages.

thanks

Consider disabling all automatic polling of POP3 in Pegasus and only performing requests manually i.e. File > Check host for new mail or via the same toolbar button.

Tools > Internet options
    Receiving (POP3)
        Polling controls
Check for new POP3 mail every 0 seconds
[] Check whenever the new mail folder is opened

    In the POP3 definition(s)
        Scheduling
Check no more frequently than once every - 0 minutes

Another alternative we could say "best of two worlds" is to check that "idle" checkbox in "Check for &new POP3 mail every: ### seconds". That will prevent Pmail to automatically poll your mailbox while you still working on it, that is composing or browsing messages or else. This settings is specially useful if you have Pmail set to send messages at once instead of queuing them for later sending. And BTW, I never liked the "Check whenever the new mail folder is opened" polling option.

Ok, thanks guys for the tips.

Always seemed wrong to me for your cell phone to be locking your pop3 account down for minutes at a time.

Well, it shouldn't but I can't swear. I don't use these fancy smartphones but I assume they must use IMAP to access any mailbox. I never had any sort of problem while using POP3, that is, accessing the same mailbox with more than one application at same time like when using Pmail and another POP3 device like  POP Peeper. I will do some testing to see if an IMAP access will block a POP3 access...

Tested my Gmail account. While accessing it with Pmail over IMAP (long series of deleting and moving operations) did not block POP Peeper to retrieve a message. Not sure if this test is conclusive.

The problem started when I got a Iphone. It has continued with my android phone. Both being smart phones.

Phone Mail  incoming settings are imap server: moble.charter.net, security: SSL, port:993.

SMTP settings are: moble.charter.net, security type SSL, Port:587, require sign-in: yes, then my username and password.

I'm going to try changing the "require sign-in" to "no" and see what happens.

I'm not sure if this can be an issue but my SMTP settings use port 587 and STARTTLS (not SSL). The other recommendation is to use full email address (login@domain.net) and password instead of just login and password. I'm pretty sure you will need to sign-in.
