As a temporary solution go to menu File/Selective Mail Downloads. The order shown is the order in which the messages are downloaded from the server. First thing, look for any messages with a large size ( eg more than 20k) Ignore them for now and for all the messages that look ok Select from the list, then click the Retrieve and Delete button. When you have checked out the list, click the "Make it so" button to download the marked messages. If that works, the problem is with one of the remaining messages. You will need to work through these one at a time, until you find the one that stalls.
The odds are that you have a message with a large attachment and that downloading it times-out the download. If you need this large file, you will need to increase your timeout value in the POP3 definition being used.
