MAPI and Window 7 64-bit

I replaced the mapi32.dll file in System32 with the working file from my home computer and the "Send to..." function started working, but still no luck with Dentrix.

I've found several articles talking about Microsoft breaking MAPI (or at least Simple MAPI) in Windows 7.  I need to update the Dentrix software anyway, so that's the next step.

We recently replaced a broken computer with a Windows 7 64-bit system.  I installed Pegasus 4.63.  In the past, I have used wpmmapi.exe to set up MAPI so that our dental practice management software (Dentrix) can initiate email messages to our clients.  On the new computer, trying to run wpmmapi.exe produces: "The program you are trying to run is incompatible with the version of Windows you are using."  I tried setting compatibility modes, but that didn't change anything.

After searching and reading, I'm a bit confused as I've come across various discussions from across the ages with varying recommendations for libraries to install and registry edits to make, as well as some hotfix from MicroSoft.  I don't want to just randomly try things and risk making a mess.

So, is MapiPM.dll and SetPMDefault.exe the right way to set Pegasus to work with MAPI?

 Thank you very much!

Yes, it is.

Thank you for the reply.  I checked that MapiPM.dll was present in c:\PMAIL\Programs and then ran SetPMDefault.exe, clicking "Yes".  I still get, "MAPI Messaging Not Set Up!!  Please Install Microsoft Messaging to use this feature."

I'll try to find and install Microsoft Messaging in the hope that there are modules in it that MAPI needs, and then run the StePMDefault again, but any other hints are appreciate.

Here's what you should see on the Default programs control panel page for Pegasus Mail (German version):

Thanks again, Michael.

I checked my default programs settings and they appear identical to yours, other than being in English.

Thinking the problem might be on the Dentrix end, I tried right clicking on a file in Explorer and selecting  Send To... -> Mail recipient.  The produced a dialog reading, "These files can't be e-mailed because there's no e-mail program on this computer."  Odd.

I tried the same thing on my home computer (also running Windows 7 Pro with SP1, 64-bit) and it worked fine to launch Pegasus.  I don't have Dentrix at home, though.

After some searching, I tried installing "Windows Essentials"  but that didn't change anything.

So, I think it's a Windows problem at this point.  Any hints are appreciated, but not expected.

 Many thanks,
