Restoring deleted IMAP files/folders

RE: http://community.pmail.com/files/folders/utils/entry3962.aspx

Thank you. Although it splits files, only Pegasus Mail files are readable, while IMAP files are not and/or I'd get the message "List index out of bounds (0)".

RE: What about creating a new user account in Pegasus Mail, closing it, disconnecting the PC from the network and copying the backed-up files into the new account's folder, then starting Pegasus as that user (remaining disconnected) ?? I know that Outlook keeps a copy of the messages from IMAP, does Pegasus not do that too?

I thought of this as soon as I noticed the problem before posting on this forum but immediately realized it's not feasible because IMAP files would not load if there's no internet connection. Unless I misunderstand your idea.

I made a backup copy of the entire Pegasus directory, saved it on a new name, Pega12, and put it aside on a different drive. I then went back to the main Pegasus directory and deleted several files and folders in the IMAP mailbox assuming that if I ever needed to go back to the old IMAP emails I'll get it from Pega12 backup copy.

I went to Pega12 and noticed that whatever files and folders in the IMAP were deleted in the current environment of Pegasus is also not anymore in Pega12 although the New mail folder as well as the mailbox folders in the backup copy are different than the current environment. It's only the IMAP folders that somehow seems to automatically get updated.

Is there a way to open a backup copy with all its IMAP files and folders the way it was when I saved it before it was deleted?

I would very much appreciate hearing from anyone as soon as possible. Thank you

Ah .... IMAP mail is stored on the server, not locally.

You have deleted it from the server, so it will be gone no matter what client you use to look at it.

You may possibly be able to retrieve some that has been locally cached from your backup, provided that you don't just open it with Pagasus, as it will syncronise with the server and delete the cached copies.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. Any idea how to open it if not with Pegasus?

Use a text editor in the first instance.

There is a utility about to split PMM (local folder files) into separate messages, but I'm not sure that IMAP cache files are formatted the same.

You might be doing a lot of copy/pasting.

I appreciate your response again. Do you know a name of such utility? I can't seem to find any.

What about creating a new user account in Pegasus Mail, closing it, disconnecting the PC from the network and copying the backed-up files into the new account's folder, then starting Pegasus as that user (remaining disconnected) ?? Yes, by default IMAP header and message body caching is enabled.
Only messages actually read are stored locally, unless the user
invokes the 'Cache all messages' function.
