Reading email - Change From data??

Hi Jerry, thanks for that. I will give it a try. At first looks, it looks like it might work for what I want.

IF it works, it does seem like a lot of work to over-ride something that the developers should have made a checkbox-option. [:)]

However, I have just found anther more serious issue and it looks like Pegasus might not be for me. I will post a new question on the "Reply to" and/or "Return-Path" issue that is being handled incorrectly or actually, not at all.

Hi All,

When reading emails, I'd like to always see the "From" data as the email address, but Pegasus takes an address like this...
"Harry Ben <emailin@oursite.com>"

and shows
"From: Harry Ben"

I'd like to always see
"From: emailin@oursite.com"

How is that done?

Thanks

Hi All,

When reading emails, I'd like to always see the "From" data as the email address, but Pegasus takes an address like this... "Harry Ben <emailin@oursite.com>"

and shows "From: Harry Ben"

I'd like to always see "From: emailin@oursite.com"

How is that done?

Thanks

That is controlled on the sender end not the receiver end. Pegasus can only display what the From: line of the message contains or the Cc: or the Bcc: of the raw message file as received.

I fully understand that the Sender has defined it as such, but Pegasus is selecting only the name-portion when the email address is also available. Since the entire data is available to Pegasus, I can see no reason why there should not be an option to display either the name portion or the email address portion.

The developers have made the decision to look for the "<" and if it exists, then just use the portion preceding it and ignore the remainder.

The Name is basically useless whereas the email address is totally unambiguous and to me, much more useful as the From: address.

I might just mention that I have been programming for 35+ years so I know how little it would take to make this request an option. [:(]

If a defined header or x- header line contains the actual address you may be able to change what is displayed in Reader using information from

http://www.vandenbogaerde.net/pegasusmail/pf_wpmchar.html

I have some custom changes I display here in Reader.
