Has development on Pegasus stopped?

I have to empathize but from the other end of the new/old user scale.

I am looking for a new email client and found Pegasus and so far quite like it except for a few wrinkles and bugs, but I m living around those.

My current (about 4 years) client is Opera Mail but it recently trashed about 2000+ emails and I then find there is no way to recover the database.

Fortunately I have many backups, but that is not the point. Opera should have some form of recovery system which Pegasus DOES have.

That is why I posed this thread before spending too much time trialing Pegasus.

I have now crossed over to it for all emails so I sure hope there is a v5 on the horizon. As with you, if donations will boost the appearance of v5, then I am happy to toss some cash at the efforts.

Thanks

Subject says it all.

There seems to be a lot of unanswered question in these forums and the program-changes pages are showing dates back in 2011 etc.

I hope work still goes on as I am liking what I see here except for a few wrinkles that should not be hard to sort out if development continues.

Thanks

Pegasus Mail v5 is in the works and will be a major overhaul.  If you don't know, Pegasus Mail development is a one man show so nothing happens quickly.  It is expected that components will developed to be compatible with the current version whenever possible so that they can be rolled out as completed (e.g. new address book, new mail store).  Time has recently been spent on an updated version of Mercury/32 which is in beta.  Hopefully once that is released we'll start hearing more about development of Pegasus Mail v5.

Pegasus Mail has a few weaknesses because of it's age but I believe once you figure it out you will find it to be an extremely capable and flexible email client.

I suspect most if not all members of the forum realize that Pegasus is a voluntary  user supported enterprise. I definitely don't mean to scold; I'm not always as punctual as I should be myself in contributing, financially, to David's efforts. But we should all do our part to make it worth David's time to keep Pegasus the premier email client it is. With respect to questions posted here on the forum, I've always had response(s) to inquiries or problems often within less than a day. And I doubt seriously any of the kind folks who have offered their time and know-how are being compensated to any degree.

Again, please don't consider this as negative feedback to your comment.

Thanks for the replies. I was not aware it was a solo effort. I am a retired programmer and wonder of I could be of any help to the lonely soul at the keyboard. :)

Thanks

I am glad that this has been raised.  I've been an enthusiastic Pegasus user since 1996, both in my home environment and in the office, where I introduced it.

When there was an appeal for funds a couple of years ago, I sent in some money.  If donations are timely again, please let us know.

However, with the most recent release being more than a year old, and a number of things not working well any more (or so it seems to me, in W7, with speed and other issues), I had been wondering if Pegasus was an orphan and I should start looking to move on.  Not that I would want to.

I  know that it is anathema to announce release schedules or anything like that, but the faithful do need encouragement that there is light at the end of the tunnel

Thanks to all the volunteers,

ciao,

A
