Failing to Install 4.63 on a Win 7 (32bit) machine

Thanks guys. Win 7 just gets worse and worse the more I find out.

I'll try the default c:\Pmail later this evening.

I have recently got a new-to-me laptop which is running Win 7, (32 bit version) which so far I loathe - but that's another story. I want to install Pegasus which I have used since Win3 in the early 90's, but the installation fails every time, although in variety of ways. I now at least have what I thought was good installation, however on initially launching PM I get the set up a single/multi/network user page as expected, but after entering the mailbox location at c:\program files\pmail\mail Pegasus disappears. The mail box directory does exist in the location specified so it got that far, but irrespective of whatever else I do, Pegasus will not launch. I have previously uninstalled PM, but using the uninstaller and the labyrinthine Windows Control Panel before trying again.

Any suggetions

Windows 7 built-in system file protection prevents the modifying of file located anywhere in the \Program Files folder.  Pegasus Mail requires that its files be updated each time it runs so it can not be installed anywhere in the \Program Files folder on Win7.  Install to the default location of C:\PMAIL.

Install to c:\pmail only when using win7 OS No program files or program files (x86) location can possibly work due to the way UAC is handled on Vista and newer OS versions.

Look carefully at installer and make sure it says and is pointed to c:\pmail location only. It can indicate other locations only if there has been a previous install or if some configuration has been copied from an old machine or drive that was not set up properly and pointed to c:\pmail.
