unable to send mail (but receiving fine)

[quote user="petefior"]

Hi all:

I am experiencing the same problem for about a week now - did not change any settings, but the SMTP server on my Verizon email account gives me an authentication error message.  I tried a different email client for sending email on the same account and it works OK.  I tried changing the original Pegasus settings under "Internet Options" but could not get my outgoing email to work.  I know that Verizon is in the process of changing their protocols, but I cannot send with either the new or old settings.

What was the error message and what did you change?

Can you create an Internet Session Log from a failed send and post it here (after xxxx'ing out any username and password).

For at least the last 2 days (could be a little longer, didn't check mail for a few days) I have not been able to send mail to my local ISP xtra.co.nz - but am able to receive mail with no problems. No changes in settings, this has just happened by itself. Error message is "an unexpected network error occurred during the transaction with the host", which eventually changes to Connection Timeout (no response from host) - although clearly the host *is* responding because I can receive mail OK. Have checked on the xtra site but no one else seems to be reporting a similar issue. Any suggestions?

Could there have been a change in the firewall or antivirus programs?

I would hate to give up Pegasus because of the many features that I use to send large mailings to distribution lists. For example, Pegasus is the only client I have found that will accept a full column of email addresses from a spreadsheet into a distribution list with a single click.  So recipients can be searched and sorted by any criteria before transferring to Pegasus! WOW!
