Can't start PMAIL in Windows 7 alltho multi-user configured

Thank you for the answers.

My first contact with W7 is far from easy. But I finally found how to un-hide files and directories and found the PMAIL.CFG (sorry for the name confusion) in AppData. The contents seemed correct.

I looked again at the referenced post that UAC seems to be a real pain.

But as Jerry advised also, better to install PMAIL in c:\pmail.

So I uninstalled from C:\Program Files\ and re-installed to C:\pmail and still following the method I use to do (like Thomas Stephenson indicates also) , so without a pre-configured mailbox, and configured the mail box location later.

This time I can get at my mail for all users, so I suppose it has all to do with the UAC approach in W7 and the way pmail handles data and program.

I usually run Pmail in Wine and have migrated a lot to other hardware without a problem.

My laptop broke and I got another one in loan and installed Windows 7 on it.

I do the usual:

My mail is on a USB stick (H:\data\PMAIL)

I installed Pmail without defining a mailbox

I then run Pmail and get the known splash screen to define mailboxes. I choose as always the multi-user button (middle one) and give the path to the existing mail boxes on the stick. I see all my defined users and close this.

Previously doing so in XP and Wine  I then get the user selection window, I choose the user and I have my mail.

In this Windows 7 installation all goes well to the point that I see all my defined users and close the window. But instead of going to the selection screen to select a user, nothing happens. I looked in the Pmail programs directory to see if the pconf file was created correctly, but it isn't there. I then executed pconfig.exe (this Windows 7 is 32-bit) and I get the home mail box new mail box entries. I fill in the mail box locations and quit with saving.

But again, I see the pconf file isn't created, so I still can't select a defined user.

I am new to Windows 7. I have searched the database for this issue, but can't find any solution.

Does anybody know why I can't make the pconf file?

Take a look at this post.

Danke Michael.

I noticed in the referenced post: C:\Users\USER NAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Pmail to find.

I came to C:\Users\USER NAME\ but then, my W7 being in French, I didn't find AppData etc...

I have, (translated as best as I could) Desktop, Contacts, Favorites, Links, My Music, My Documents, My Pictures, My Videos, Games Saved, Search and Downloads.

I am afraid the 'AppData' is hidden and I didn't find out how to show hidden files.

Another difficulty I have is that my keyboard is azerty for regular programs, but for the cmd.exe window it  is in querty. So executing pconf.exe is a real challenge to get the data entered for the mail boxes right.

When I search for pconfig, only the pconfig.rsc file in pmail\progams is found.

So I am still puzzled.

The  output of PCONFIG is stored as PMAIL.CFG and stored in same location as Pconfig. That location must be both readable and writeable and is why no Program Files location will work. You winpm-32 executable should be in c:\pmail and below subdirs. All Pegasus Mail files must be readable and writeable during operation and winpm-32 can not work with files marked read only at OS level.
