Obscure control for Selective Mail Download Command

Thanks everybody. Jim's guidance worked like a charm.

This problem solved totally to my satisfaction. I still think the item should be made more explicit, and be in the help files; it is SUCH a useful tool.

I'll be bringing a much more serious problem to these pages later .... Brian

Hello all, I'm a Pegasus user  since maybe 15 years ago, and really like it over all kinds of mail program I have seen. And I did donate a couple of months ago !  I am a POP3 user.

One of the most useful aspects of Pegasus is the selective download ability which can be shown in the task bar  ( or whatever it is called) with a question-mark, at the top of the screen. With this only message headers are shown in the beginning and one has the choice of various options including deleting on the server.

This can be accessed for every download session from the FILE drop-down menu. But this arrangement does not leave the condition there permanantly.

However, hidden somewhere in the TOOLS section ( I think) is a command that enables this button to be present all the time.

It is NOT mentioned anywhere that I can see anywhere in the online manual or help files. (It would be nice if it were to be)

I have just spent 4 fruitless hours  trying to find it for Pegasus that I have just installed on my partner's machine.

I know it is there somewhere because I have found and installed it on at least 4 computers in the past.

The only clue I have to its location is that it was in the context of another system different from Windows (as I recall) but I can not find it.

 Help much appreciated.

For that you need a toolbar.pm file in c:\pmail\programs, containing the line: 0,835,0,1835,"Perform a selective download via the built-in POP3 transport"

More information on customising this file can be found in the file bpanel.txt that is shipped with Pegasus Mail and can be found in  C:\PMAIL\Programs\RESOURCE.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

Funny; I never needed that in the past, the control was just there, but hidden in an unexpected location. I wonder if something has been deleted - and also why it is not included in the "Help" pages. Brian

Brian,

I enabled the 'Selective mail download' icon on my toolbar by going to Tools, Options, Toolbars (under User Interface) then selecting 'POP3 user' from the dropdown list under 'Main window toolbar style' HTH.

It's there.  Access it via the Help button in the  Tools > Options > User interface >

Toolbars window.   Interestingly,

there are no hits when searching the manual for TOOLBAR.PM but there is a

paragraph titled "Customizing the button panel" that points the reader

to BPANEL.TXT for details.

Oh deary me... I completely overlooked that much simpler option. And it's even the toolbar that I always used to select on a new installation of Pegasus. Sorry! It's just that I've since used the toolbar.pm file to create a nice, customised compact toolbar with no icons other than the ones I need.

Thanks Steffan,

I did just  that, and what happened was that ALL the buttons to the left of the golden dollar sign vanished, AND the wished-for button was not there either.

Deleted PM file; back to square 1.

It would be really great if, some time, David could amend the program to include a very obvious and explicit command for this task, somewhere in the TOOLS menu. And have an explicit entry in the help files. Thanks

I will try the suggestion of the latest posts by members.

I was referring to Steffan's first post - when I wrote my post just above, his second post had not arrived.  Brian
