Displaying HTML if available

When I open an email it always seems to show me the plain text version of it.

I can see the HTML formatted version by clicking the Attachments tab and clicking "HTML text" - the rendered HTML is then visible in the pane beneath.

I would like to see the rendered HTML version by default when I open an email. Is there a setting to do that, and is it safe to do so (e.g. scripts and browser exploits etc) ?
