MercuryD Problem: 'non-local message ignored' when I don't want to

Hi Rolf,

Yes did the trick for at least my testmessages. Will see how it holds for real mailing list stuff but if your analysis is 100% correct it should also solve it for those.

Tnx a lot, and happy 2014,

<Erik>

Hi folks,

1] Happy (remainder of) the holidays!

2] Time for some overdue maintenance on the Mercury setup, which is one host with three mailboxes and another one with 1; all under the same domain (avalokite.doge.nl), main reason to use Mercury is its quality to split the incoming messages over the four mailboxes based on analysing the To: message header.

However whenever some mail is put in my POP3 box at the host _not_ for one of these four,

a] MercuryD console gives non-local message ignored

b] When I put on a sessionlogging, get

Mind the DELE, that's the equivalent of the removing of the message.

Now this isn't that unwanted in the sample case, when I sent to test@avalokite.doge.nl which indeed does not exist, but it's a bit painful when someone sends to a mailinglist and that ends up in the To: (will find out later what exactly is in the message header and maybe make better MERCURYD rules, but currently the messages simply don't reach me and indirectly from the sender I get to know I missed something...)

Bottomline: how can I change Mercury settings to that these non-local messages DO arrive (will move them to my Postmaster account or the like)?

And of course I'll copypaste the MER configfiles needed to analyse it deeper, please shoot which ones are needed...

Tnx,

<Erik>

Happy holidays!

Try specifying default user in the POP3 mailbox definition! From Mercury help:

Default user

When distributing mail from a domain mailbox, MercuryD may encounter messages for whom it can find no local recipient; this will commonly happen if one of your users subscribes to a mailing list, since mailing lists usually do not indicate the actual recipient anywhere in the message headers. In cases such as this, MercuryD can be told to deliver the message to a specific, or default user. If you leave this field blank, MercuryD will discard any messages for which it can find no local delivery addresses. This field is only meaningful when you have told MercuryD to distribute mail (by leaving the Local user field blank).
