How to save column widths in PMail?

A child- or subwindow is window within the window of a program.

Click Window -> Cascade and you'll have them not maximized.

I know there is a related article on windows 7, but (a) I couldn't understand it and (b) my problem is not OS-related. In Win XP and now Win 8.1, I've never been able to save the mail column widths - I always have a date column where I can't see the actual day. How do I save the resized widths?

Tools -> Options -> General Settings -> Basic Settings

[x] Save the Pegasus Mail desktop state between sessions

Tools -> Options -> Incoming mail -> Message Reader

[x] Always save the last window size and position used

I know that option and it's never worked in several years on several computers - maybe it works for other parts, but it never works for the widths in the mail window like Date/Time - that is what is so frustrating!

Ensure the child windows are not maximised when you close Pegasus Mail and it should then work.

OK - then: the subwindows within Pegasus MUST NOT be maximized while closing Pegasus. Otherwise the column sizes won't be saved.

OK - a silly question - what's a child window and how do I make it not maximised?

I've tried to include a Snip file, but don't really know how it works, so gave up
