Pegasus Receives Email but Can't Send

Thanks to Jerry and caisson for all that you guys have done to try to help with this frustrating situation. Today I had a tech wiz from ATT go into my computer to find a solution and he came away without a clue. It cost me $49.00, which I shouldn't have to pay after their assurances that they would fix the problem. As a result, my family and I decided to switch back to Cox. Not only because I love Pegasus and would hate to use anything else as an email client, but also because ATT falls short in other areas. Their fiber optics internet is slow. The range of their WiFi is pathetic. So, I'm not going to pursue this discussion any further. Instead I'm looking forward to exploring the new features in my favorite email client (which I've been using sine the mid 90s), and eagerly look forward to the next update. I have enough stress in my life, with health problems and don't need to suffer through second rate email programs. I'm staying with what works :-)

We just today switched to AT&T U-Verse, and I'm beginning to think it was a big mistake. After much fiddling with Internet tools, I am finally able to receive email, but anything I send comes through with a blank subject line and no text.

I have read of similar problems suffered by a Pegasus user in the same situation and followed his suggestions by switching on the SSL and playing around with the POP and SMTP settings, but so far nothing works.

Any help is greatly appreciated.   (And yes, BIG mistake, because not only doesn't Pegasus work properly, our phone is dead.)

I'm disappointed with the lack of responses to my issue. I've been a Pegasus Mail user for ages and have never encountered a problem like this. I hope someone out there can help, as I would hate to have to switch to another email client. None of the ones I've tried so far can compare.

Thanks again.

You did not give us any information to work with. What was the SMTP information you entered and what was what the provider advised to enter for outbound email server information? Did you create session log and then check to see what it contained?

Were you trying to use old SMTP server or new one and is there any change that AT&T U-verse uses same software as Verizon and requires SSLV3 only?

Thanks for the reply, Jerry. I really have no idea what server AT&T uses, but I do see that email is set up as if it were a web server. I've configured and reconfigured ports, security, and clicked on the Login to SMTP server and POP3 using password and user name. I did get to the point where I can now download email. However when I send, the email comes through, but without a subject and the message is blank. I'm totally flummoxed :-(

What are the session logs telling you? See here:

http://community.pmail.com/forums/post/24030.aspx

You could also try an alternative email program if you have access to one, to determine if Pmail is the problem or perhaps the server.

With UVERSE, you have to have any email addresses that you want to use "approved" on their site to work with your account.

Once you have your email address(es) approved that you will be using for sending, you will be able to start sending email with them ...

This link should help explain how to do this:

caisson, Thanks for your reply. I have clicked on the button to begin saving my session logs, but for the life of me, I can't find where they are stored on my computer. I found the explanation on the link you provided (http://community.pmail.com/forums/post/24030.aspx) too confusing. I scoured my PMail directories and performed a search, without any success. Is there any way you can give me this info in plain, simple English?

I've also begun a search to find a replacement email client, at least until the problems with PMail can be resolved.. So far, none holds a candle to Pegasus. But I did discover that the ones I've tried so far (EM Client and PostBox) have no problems sending or receiving

Again, much thanks for your help.

Hi Jerry,

I entered the SMTP and POP information correctly, as they work in the other email clients I've been trying out in the interim. Emails sent from Pegasus using those same settings go through, but only the header shows, no message at all.  This  what I get:

From: "Kathy Fischer-Brown" <kathyfb@att.net>

X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 140309-1, 03/09/2014), Outbound message

I do have a session log checked, but as I mentioned somewhere else, I can't seem to locate it on my computer.

Using v4.63 they are in your home mail box location and are tcp*.wpm files readable using Notepad. Additional connections are appended to existing files. With new v470 things are different and in tcplogs directory then session files are written to drive using date as name and either .pop .smto or .imap as extension.

There is a possibility your antivirus could be interfering with things. Can you disable it during testing?

There is also possibility that your new service requires use of SSL V3 and v4.63 does not provide that. However the new v4.70 does provide SSL V3 connections.

Thanks so much, Jerry! I found the log, sent a another test message, and it came through just as before: no subject line and no message. Then I disabled my antivirus and sent again. Still no luck.

I downloaded v. 4.7 and normally would be thrilled, but I still can't get PMail to send properly through my ATT account. All still works perfectly with my old ISP settings.

So...what must I do to have the log files analyzed?

Hi again Jerry,

I just compared two sets of logs--one sent from the account that does everything I want and the other that doesn't send email text. I noticed in the logs that " Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII,"
"Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT" and "Content-description: Mail message body" are missing from emails sent from the ATT account. I believe this has to be the problem, but am at a loss as to how to fix it.

Any suggestions?

Here are two sets of logs from today. One went through perfectly. The next one, some two hours later with no changes to the settings did not:

Is there anyone out there who can help me? I have log files, but have no idea what to do with them. Can someone please tell me where to send the logs or how I can fix this issue on my own? Honestly, I LOVE PMail and would be heartbroken if I had to use any of the other mail clients out there. I've been trying out a few and none can compare. Please, I'm getting desperate :-(

Do not send log files without carefully Edit and check of them as they, if complete, contain your account and password too.

This is the att webpage contains POP & SMTP email client settings

http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401570#fbid=GVAF3Hz8XOq

but it states

"You are only able to use an email client if you created a free att.net account before June 11, 2011."

and

"You get AT&T web-based email plus our online self-help tools as part

of your AT&T High-Speed Internet service. Other companies offer

client-based email products like Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, or

Windows Live Mail. If you need help with an email client you use with

AT&T services, reach out to our tech support experts at AT&T

ConnecTech. They'll assist with installation, setup, or troubleshooting for an

affordable price. Get a complete listing of services and pricing at the AT&T ConnecTech."

Also, this page contains instruction for configuring Outlook

http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401573&cv=804#fbid=GVAF3Hz8XOq

but it again states

"This feature is not available for free att.net email accounts created after 6/12/11."

Then I found a post on the att community support forum where someone provided detailed instructions on configuring Outlook (you should be able to extrapolate the settings and use them in Pegasus Mail).  This post was dated 4/4/13 so contradicts the statements made on the pages above.

Thanks, Brian. I've been through that. It's a new paid account, so the prior to June, 2011 doesn't apply.

I used the same setting they  recommend for Outlook and it doesn't work for sending. My incoming mail works fine. SMTP goes through but without the text part of the message.

Firstly the log files you have posted contain your username and password (Base64 encoded) so you should change the latter.

Secondly the log files confirm what you are saying but I do not know why it is occurring. The fact that other programs work is also an issue.

My first thought is that the problem might be with the server. Have you taken it up with the provider?
