Because I have not yet received a working solution to my problem of Pegasus not downloading emails with attachments, I have to find another way to get these messages into my Pegasus folders for archiving purposes. There are now 136 messages with attachments in my server's inbox awaiting download, and this number is increasing by about 3-6 messages each day. So the problem is reaching a critical stage for me, and I urgently need to do something.
I propose to use my ISP's web client for email, and then either download, copy-and-paste, or screenscrape each of the problematical emails, and finally either manually or programatically convert the emails to files in the CNM file format used in Pegasus. (I may or may not decide to uuencode attachments as part of the converted CNM file.) To convert the files, however, requires some knowledge of the Pegasus innards. I ordered the Pegasus manual around 15 (I think) years ago, but, as I recall, I was disappointed at the time because most of what it talked about was scripting Pegasus Mail when I was looking for file formats and the like (which it did not at all discuss, as I recall). Anyway, to create CNM files, I need a couple pieces of information:
(1) Do CNM files have any REQUIRED fields that must exist for Pegasus Mail to operate correctly (that is, to load the info in the CNM file into the Pegasus Mail system)? I presume that "From:", "To:", and date/time would likely fall into that category, but are there any other required fields?
(2) Are CNM files REQUIRED to have an 8-character filename in order for Pegasus Mail to handle them correctly?
I think this is all I need to know in order to to start working on these conversions. If there's anything else you think I should know as well, please include that information. Thank you very much in advance for helping me to work around the email problem I've been having for the past 8 months!
Harvey
