The old version had been functional, but the computer it was on was not - Win XP on a computer that would not take an upgrade.  We're now on 8.1, and with thanks to you and others I've reviewed eveerything I did, and the message folders are now all showing and the address folder is no longer garbled, so we're fine.  Thank you. 

I installed PMail for my wife on a newly acquired computer, and then got an incomplete admin folder from the old one.  Running setup produced a stack of old folders,   though none from the last couple of years. I then found the missing files and copied them into the folder before running setup again, but this failed to fill out the list of addresses, folders and distribution lists.  What should I do? Uninstall and start again?

Thanks for the link.  I have now made some progress following as far as I can understand it bfluet's advice at http://community.pmail.com/forums/thread/36759.aspx, and I can now get it to read the addresses, but still not the folders.  I thought I had copied them all across.  Have you any pointers?

Basically the operation is relatively simple where  the two configurations are identical.

By default Pmail installs to C:\Pmail and the default mailbox is at C:\Pmail\Mail\Admin.

In such cases the entire Pmail folder can be copied over.

Where the paths are different you need to selectively transfer files from the mailbox.

Typically the needed files are as follows:

Pmail does not have a new mail folder as such. Messages showing as being in the new mail folder are individual files wiith the extension CNM.

Mail folders are file pairs with the same name but differing extensions, PMI and PMM.

Similarly Address Books are file pairs withe same name but extensions are PM! and PMR.

Distribution lists are files with the extension PML.

Recently used addresses are contained in the file WINPMFUA.PM.

Server definition files commence with POP or SMT and have the extension PND.(Note that transferring these files makes the definitions available but does not reset them. Thsi must be done in Tools | Internet options). 

Thanks. That's more or less what I gathered from reading the links.  I've now got the address file working, but the folders, which should be all there are not being picked up. A complication is that the addresses are somewhat, though not entirely garbled, so  I am going to have to do something tedious to sort them out.

Can you provide more detail of what you did? Your first post does not convey a great deal of information.

What OS's and Pmail versions are involved? Is the old installation functional?

What do you mean by "incomplete folder" and what did "running setup" entail?
