After installing 4.7 no messages displayed. (pmail in wine)

Thank you Michael, that did the trick.

But I think there is an issue with Pmail when, as I did, install 2 versions in two different directories.

Maybe it is because the control panel of wine that the two installs aren't seen.

Also the version n° installed isn't shown.

If in a full windows situation version n° and two installs are shown, then it is indeed a problem with wine.

If in full Windows it is the same as in wine, then I suppose there is a problem in Pmail.

Anyway I am happy I can benefit from 4.7 with it's SSL support.

I had 4.63 installed, but couldn't get message from f.e. a gmail account which uses SSL. I didn't find a way to do this and finally gave up on that.

I continued with those mail accounts which didn't need SSL.

This morning I stumbled upon a thread in which was reference of pmail 4.7. I looked at the detail description and to my pleasure I saw that one of the big changes was to use open  SSL. As my linux has open SSL, I downloaded 4.7 and upgraded the 4.63.

When I started my main account I got my usual 3-pane window, but the contents of the messages wasn't displayed. The folders were displayed as well as the message tittles, but not the body in the pane below.

I closed Pmail and started again with the gmail user account I had made before.

The same thing was there, no message body displayed. I went into options and un-ticked: display the fancy version if exist. Then I got sometimes some more text in the body.

Before I had made a test message to be sent with SSL and I went to it and did resend this message. I verified and it was received at the destination, so indeed open SSL did work.

Then I wanted to display a picture in an attachment and got the message that wine-gecko had to be installed (wasn't needed in 4.63 before) so I did and I got the picture displayed in wine IE.

So back to my problem of no bodies displayed and I closed pmail.

I started again with the main account and now I got the title bar of the window, the menu bar, the message headers without the window bar, but not the bodies. And there was a lot of disk activity which lasted for at least 10 minutes. Finally disk activity stopped, but no change in the way of displaying. When I pushed on a menu entry all I get is a beep. When I switch to another application and come back, I still have that information in pmail's window so indicating the window didn't repaint. All I can do is kill pmail through the tittle bar of the window. A normal close doesn't work.

So how can I go from here to work with pmail?  Install 4.63 again over the 4.7 installation?

Have to say that in 4.63 I had some issue with cache hits and did tests with and without IErendering. I can't rember in which state I worked with 4.63 finally, with or without IErendering.

Thanks for any advice.

Very likely only without IERenderer since WINE's IE (API) support still seems to be incomplete.

Well, this is embarrassing. I made a fresh install of 4.63 in another directory. Having multiple accounts, I did the setup for it (middle radio button) and filled in the path to the existing mail data directory.

I selected my main account and expected to be able to see my mail messages correctly now, but I have the same issue.

The after killing pmail, I restarted and selected an account which I hadn't selected before, but again after some 10 minutes of disk activity I have the same issue.

Now I am even more puzzled.

Thanks for any thoughts and advice.

My suggestion still stands: Turn off IERenderer (you may even need to uninstall it, there should be a repective entry in the uninstall section of WINE if it emulates this properly).

Sorry Michael,

I posted my second message and hadn't seen you had replied already on my first one.

I found the wine control panel and uninstalled IE Rendering which was at I believe 2.4.7.2

I started pmail 4.63 and I can read my mail again.

So i tried the 4.7 one and got first a message that I used 4.63 on the mail data.

And a second start of 4.7 I get a black pop-up window titled welcome to 4.7 and again that 10 minutes disk activity.

Again I had to kill pmail.

So the good news, I know I can get at my mail with 4.63.

The bad news is that I can't make 4.7 to work, so I don't benefit from the new SSL support.

I'll look into this later as it's bedtime and early day tomorrow.

Thanks for your intervention and further tips to get 4.7 working are welcome.

So to recall, I did an update from 4.63 to 4.7 which didn't work as described before.

I installed a 4.63 in another directory.

Through the control panel of wine I uninstalled IE Rendering and now the 4.63 is working.

But what struck me is that in wine control panel I only see one pmail installed, and the version installed isn't mentioned; So I don't know if I uninstall this pmail, which one will be uninstalled, the 4.7 or the 4.63. I expected to see both mentioned as was the case for wine-gecko of which I realize I have two different versions indicated as installed.

Having been busy all day, I didn't  continue to see how I could diagnose how I could make 4.7 work. So I still hope getting good tips.

As in control panel of wine IE Rendering was uninstalled, I looked at the directory in 4.63 and didn't see a IERENDERING directory.

I compared that with the 4.7 installation and I still had a IERENDERING directory altho I had it uninstalled.

I decided to delete this directory as it wasn't there anymore in 4.63.

When I started 4.7 there was a message that windows complained the an extension wasn't  found and I pushed on the ok button.

This time I could see my message bodies and I could work with the mails.

So only thing to find out, as 4.7 doesn't know that IERendering is uninstalled how to make this known in 4.7.

Anybody knows? Hopefully it is an editable option file somewhere.

The uninstaller only "knows" about the version of Pegasus Mail last used. To get rid of the warning delete the files IERenderer.fff and Renderer.pm in Pegasus Mail's "Programs" directory (the one containing WINPM-32.EXE).
