Pegasus wont open copied Folders (.pmm and .pmi files)

I found these out (not sure if this might help others);

When I installed a new version of Pegasus in Windows 8 sometimes "PMAIL" installed by itself and sometimes both "PMAIL" and "Admin PMAIL" are installed.

When both are installed, there seems to be problems with copying old files and setting up POP3 and SMTP.

When PMAIL (only)  is install, the path is; C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN

I was able to setup  POP3 and SMTP and copy backup .pmm/.pmi files in the "MAIL" directly and it worked.

All is working now but there seems to be something with the directory that Pegasus is installed in and also the ADMIN component of the installation.

Hello:

I installed Pegasus on a new machine.

I tried to copy all the files from a backup Pegasus account.

All the new messages (.cnm files) were copied and I can view them however, the folders (.pmm and .pmi files) wont show up in the new Pegasus mail.

I can see all the (.pmm and .pmi files) in C:\PMAIL\MAIL but they just wont open.

Please assist.

Thanks.

The path C:\PMAIL\MAIL is the root mailbox directory.  The .pmm/.pmi files need to be in an actual mailbox directory which by default is C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN.

I copied the .pmm/.pmi files in C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN but it still didn't work.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Copied while Pegasus Mail was shut down?

Edit:  A couple of other thoughts...

Are there any mailbox directories (subdirectories of C:\PMAIL\MAIL) other than \ADMIN?

Were the backup .pmm/.pmi file in a copy of a mailbox directory or were they .pmm/.pmi file pairs that had been manually backed up?

Here is how this all works: Each .pmm/.pmi file pair is assigned a unique folder ID by Pegasus Mail when it is created.  That folder ID is used internally by Pegasus Mail to identify the folder.  The HIERARCH.PM file holds the folder list during the Pegasus Mail session.  On startup, Pegasus Mail builds/modifies the HIERARCH.PM file by surveying all .pmm/.pmi files in the mailbox directory.   If there are any .pmm/.pmi file pairs that contain the same folder ID then those folders will not be listed in the folder list (HIERARCH can't handle duplicate folder IDs).  Duplicate IDs can occur when someone manually backs up a folder by coping the .pmm/.pmi file pair then at some future point attempts to add that folder (file pair) back to the folder list.  If you suspect this is the problem post back for options to deal with it.
