I have been running windows 8.1 using Pegasus Mail for about a year. Today no window for all my email folders just the icon on the task bar. So I downloaded 4.7 but that did not cure the problem. I restarted the computer and that did not help. Any idea what is going on?
Thanks for your help.
Tom
Not sure exactly what you mean. Which view are you using, List or Preview?
In preview mode if the left hand pane is missing try dragging the divider across.
There is a bar at the bottom of Pegasus Mail that shows all open windows. It is toggled on and off with the blue triangle icon an the bottom right of Pegasus Mail. If the folder window is listed then it is either behind another window (possibly minimized) or off screen.
To check for off screen, go to the Window pull-down menu and select Tile. Make sure the Folder window is open first. You may what to click the Folder toolbar icon before tiling just to be sure. You will need to resize and reposition windows after tiling.
Finally, the saving of the desktop state by Pegasus Mail behaves oddly when the Pegasus Mail main window is maximized. I suggest doing all window manipulation while the main window is windowed. FWIW, I run mine stretched to full screen size rather than maximized.
Brian,
Thanks for the help. The main window is not visible. All I see is the icon on the windows 8.1 task bar.

Am I correct in my understanding that Pegasus Mail is running, is visible in the taskbar, but clicking the taskbar item does not open the Pegasus Mail main window?
If so, I have never heard of this happening but know that the size and location of the Pegasus Mail application window is stored in a file named PMAIL.INI located in your home mailbox directory (default is C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN but if you have multiple users then ADMIN would be replaced by your Pegasus Mail username). The PMAIL.INI gets rewritten during Pegasus Mail shutdown permanently storing and configuration changes made during that session, including changes to the main window size and location. I can see how it might get corrupted if that write is interrupted. That would be a rare occurrence so I'm hoping someone else has another thought.
Continuing my thought of a corrupted PMAIL.INI file, here is my brain dump...
If you have a backup of your mailbox directory from before the problem occurred then you could try restoring the PMAIL.INI file and see if that solves the problem. If you don't have a backup then you might manually editing the window parameters in the PMAIL.INI file. To do this, with Pegasus Mail closed, make a safety copy of the PMAIL.INI file to a different directory. Now use Notepad to open the PMAIL.INI file that is in your home mailbox directory. Find the following entries and set them accordingly:
Application window frame is maximized = N
Application window rectangle = 8 8 600 600
Save the file and close Notepad then open Pegasus Mail. Hopefully it will open in a 600x600 pixel window at the upper left of your screen. If it does then you should be concerned that other configuration settings have been affected and do a review of all configuration settings.
A rebuild of the PMAIL.INI file is a last resort approach that involves removing it from the home mailbox directory. Pegasus Mail will create a new one but will startup like a new installation and need to be configured. Make a backup of your entire home mailbox directory before beginning this process.
...end of brain dump.
Again, I am hoping someone chimes in with a simple explanation for your problem that I have not thought of.
Brian,
Rebuilding the pmail.ini file did the trick! Thank you very much for you help you have been a life saver!
BTW is there any documentation regarding what the purpose of all the files are in the pmail folders and how pmail works in general?
Thanks again!
