POP3 network or protocol error

Another way to check things out.  Use Selective Retrieval on the File menu. Click the items that have a small file size for retrieval and when done click the Do It button. Then start selecting the larger messages one at a time, and repeat the Do It button. If you are lucky you will find a threshold file size.

You can then set the maximum file size to be downloaded in the POP3 profile (menu Tools/Internet Options, and click the POP3 tab. Then click the profile name that you use, and click Edit. Finally click the Download Control tab. Fill in the maximum filesize amount and click OK twice.

Any message larger than this amount will need to be downloaded via Selective Retrieval method.

I have a desktop with Win 7 and a Laptop with Win 8.1  (the laptop gets its connection via our WiFi)

Since about the time we installed 8.1 over 8.0 high rate of failure to download emails on the laptop (have installed latest version of Pegasus)

Usually get "downloading message 1 of n..."

then POP3 Network or Protocol error dialog reason "connection timeout (no response from host)"

details:-

I have changed the timeout for network connection to 120 seconds which seems to help a bit.  Anything else I can try (we have a Virgin router with two band WiFi)

Try increasing the timeout to 200 or more.

The log appoears normal as far as it goes. I assume the remainder of it shows the message details.

BTW there were no other message details shown, it stopped there. Extending the timeout helps but it still struggles.

Suggesting a sudden dropout. Do you have log files with similar dropouts and do they occur at the same point, i.e. at the point of retrieval (RETR)?

Can you also post a log file from a successful transaction.
