convert iPhone address book to Pegasus?

caisson,

Thanks for the suggestion. Turns out I CAN export to csv using the same iPhone app (had no idea), and can eventually work that file to PMail data order, but it's like herding cats and still comes out with lots of individual problems, so hoping the PMVcard routine can work as martin seems to have taken care of most of the data re-alignment in his code already.

But thanks, I do now have a fall-back emergency method that at least works!

Any simple solutions?

I've been using Dawn for years on an XP machine to transfer my iPhone contacts to Pegasus (I think of it as a one-way sync) by syncing the iPhone to Outlook then using Dawn to convert to Pegasus.

Now on Windows7Pro, 64bit and Dawn is not working. Dawn installs fine, runs fine, exports to Pegasus fine but fails to create a useable PMR file. Best

I can tell, the data is all transferred to a PMR file correctly EXCEPT

there is an additional space character added between EVERY data

character (and possibly the data spaces, I can't tell.) Pegasus reads only the first character of the file name (the drive letter) and that's it.

I do have an app that backs up my whole address book to a vcf file, maybe that's a more straight forward route to convert to Pegasus than using Outlook as the bridge in Dawn?

iTunes/Windows also allows me to access the Windows Address Book, maybe there's a way there?

Frustrated. Really like Pegasus and really like my iPhone and need the two to play nice together.

To the best of my knowledge Dawn works with Win 98 thru to Vista only.

If you can extract iphone contacts to a csv file you can run that in Excel, order the fields as required by Pmail and then import the tab delimited text file.

You can try my utility program, PMVCARD which can be downloaded from this site as:

http://community.pmail.com/files/folders/pegadd/entry40620.aspx

It will down load a set of VCARDs to an address book of your choice.  Depending on the content of the original info, you may have to go through the new address book entries and fix things up.  Microsoft is famous for not complying with standards such as vCards.

Let me know if you need any further help

Martin,

Thanks, that actually ALMOST works! I'm hoping you can help me get the last step.

I have an app on the iPhone "MCBackup" that creates a backup file of my entire iPhone address book as a ".vcf" file. It lets me email the file to myself. In PMail, that file comes in as an attachment to the email, and with your PMVCARD installed I can view that file when I double click on it in PMail.

But I can't find a way to get that file to load into an address book per your PMVCARD instructions. I select an address book, I select "Import Tab Delimited" from the Address Book menu. Nothing.

Am I missing something simple?

I should add, I have also tried to import the file it tells me to use in the bottom of the view ("\pmvcard.tab") but that just adds one entry into the address book that is a composite of the last entries in the pmvcard view.

Please send me a copyof the pmvcard.tab file so I can look at it As well please send me a copy of the original data stream, so I can then try to duplicate your problem.

My email: irelam@telus.net

Thanks
