AW: Recommendation for Webmailer accessing Mercury

Hi!

So the problem was not in version 4.8, but previous version, and updating to version 4.8 fixed it? OK, thanks for the info.

Hi,

We are just commissioning our new SSL VPN where we get access from the internet to our company network. Mercury is running in the network properly since many years (btw: new v4.80 still works great until now without crashes anymore - good job David, Rolf & Co.). The VPN gateway is able to offer direct access to LAN web applications, if any are available.

Now I thinking about installing a webmail application in the company LAN which is accessing the Pmail boxes of our users via Mercury. I could imagine that this would be much easier for the users to get access via webmail frontend by browser than installing and adjusting own IMAP mail clients at home for the access to Mercury I.

Has anybody a recommendation or experiences which current mail webserver is suitable for such task? The last forum thread about this issue was in 2007. Maybe something has changed in the meantime. BTW it should be easily to install/maintain because I have no experiences in php & Co.

Greetings

Joerg

Hi Thomas,

Looks good. But I have to ask our Linux nerds firstly whether they could setup a Linux system on one of our old computers. I maintain our Windows servers only and have no idea about Linux.

Thanks

Jörg

Hi Jörg!

This is off-topic, but can you tell more about crashes, and how you fixed them?

 Regards

Hi Jyrki,

What do you want to know about crashes? I have to check my Windows Server 2003 R2, where Mercury is running on, regulary. From time to time in past the Mercury tray icon was still available, but when moving the mouse over the tray symbol it disappeared. So I could recognize that Mercury was crashed. In that case I had to restart the Mercury server process.

In last year many german internet service providers changed their mail access from unencrypted to SSL / STARTTLS encryption. From this moment we had to activate the SSL connection mode in Mercury for getting our mails. But the Open SSL functionality was not properly implemented or the SSL standard has been changed over the years (I'm not an expert in this issue). But anyway. Mercury crashed from time to time incidentally and the smtp log showed no corrected SSL termination.

But since David has released his new beta 4.8 (some weeks ago) any crashes are history. The new version runs very stable in our environment and I'm happy so far.

Greetings

Joerg
