WSENDTO Could not communicate with Pegasus Mail

I wish I could help you figure what is causing it.  I do not have any problems with mailto links after installing Windows updates this morning.  Tested from Office 2007 apps, Firefox, and my cardfile contact list.  There may not be any association to Windows updates since no one else has posted about a problem.

When it fails, do you know whether mailto links are broken in all apps or just in Chrome?

I'm glad the System mailer button fixes it.  At least that is easier than running the installer.

v4.70.

On trying to click on email addresses in Chrome, I'm getting this all of the time. I've seen other posts to do with Signature, but I get the same result with or without Add this variant ticked. I only have my name as my signature. Any ideas?

Try setting Pegasus Mail as the system default mailer by clicking the "System mailer" button located in Tools > Options > Incoming mail > Hyperlinks.

If this Pegasus Mail installation is an installation copied from another PC then you may need to run the Pegasus Mail installation routine.

Finally, you might check the configuration in Chrome.  I don't use Chrome but know that in Firefox you can specify the application that acts on mailto links.  It is set to use the Pegasus Mail WSENDTO utility.

Thanks for the reply, Brian.

I've now clicked on the System mailer button and that didn't help.

The installation isn't copied from another PC.

Chrome uses the system setting for Windows. Under Network/Programs/Internet Programs/set program Defaults, I have "Pegasus Mail has all the defaults" and  Mailto, URL:MailToProtocaol and PegasusMail WSENDTO as extensions to be opened by default by PMail

But I've now reinstalled over the original and it now works!

Now I just have to sort out why I can't reindex a folder that claims to have "Data error, Probably invalid offset", but the program claims the folder is currently open

See this thread, use mbxmaint_ui.exe for reindexing after closing Pegasus Mail (and maybe restarting Windows).

Wow! You've got a good memory, Michael.

I've now done that and Check consistency gives no problems. However, Reindex and Recover deleted space still give the message can't do it with an open folder with this folder, but no others - is thsi normal/

Tom,

You may have to resort to creating a new folder to serve as your Main folder.  I currently have one named "_Main folder".  I don't recall if i did that intentionally to keep it at the top of the folder list or if it is a replacement but it would not hurt to try a new folder.  Create the new folder then change the setting for the default mail folder in Tools > Options > General settings > Basic settings.  Use the button to select the folder, don't just type it in.  If all works well copy the messages from the old Main folder into it.

Thanks, Brian,

I've made MF = MF9 and made a new MF which is working. I'll leave it like that. Thanks again

I know this comment is a little late on solving your "Could not communicate" problem, but I just want to add for the record.  WSendto is using the Windows Registry to locate the Pegasus Mail executable. For some reason the actual location of Pegasus Mail, as found in Windows Explorer, and the Windows Registry pointer to the location are different. The solution is to update the registry to the correct location.   You have actually done this by re-installing Pegasus Mail.

That's interesting to know, Martin. Any idea why it gets it wrong the first time and puts it right the second?

I am curious as well.  It is not uncommon that I have to rerun WSSETUP on a workstation install (Win7) in order to get mailto links to work.

What about using Tools => Options => Hyperlinks => System mailer? It invokes the same utility being called during setup. It should work as well unless you cancel the Admin rights dialog appearing (proper Registry access requires it). I have no idea whether there's something different with client/server installations, though ...

Tom experienced exactily what I sometimes have which is that the system mailer button does not fix the problem but rerunning the installation routine (or wssetup in my case) does.

I these cases I believe the key is running the installer AFTER running setpmdefault but I am not certain.

Re-installed again and it's OK now, but why does it keep doing this?

Might you have another program that is attempting to make itself the default mailer?

Was the "Pegasus Mail WSENDTO utility" still showing as the default program for mailto links?

Did you install the April Windows updates prior to the problem recurring?
