Lost folder structure

Thank you, Brian. I will work on it and hope that I get everything back in the addressbook department. Thank you all for your help. It's just slog-work from here on in.

Hello,

I am using Pmail ver 4.7 on Win XP. I just had a system crash and, when Pegasus started up, the folder structure had disappeared. Everything is at top level.

Is there any way to get it back???

 Thank you.

Not unless you have a backup of the file HIERARCH.PM, i.e. for practical purposes a backup of your mailbox.

Not recent. OK. I will rebuild. What fun. Thanks.

You can edit the old file with Notepad, but I think this would be more tedious than drag and drop.

Yes, NotePad is painful. You're right. Even Excel. I have way too many folders. HAD!!! Arhghghg. Takes a month to find any incoming messages, scrolling down thru them all. I know; I should a backed it up....

The main issue is that you have to recreate your tray structure, after that you can drag and drop as needed.

Yes, working on it. Excel said there were almost 1500 entries.... Maybe it's time to start over.

If you right click on a rule you can disable/enable it.

Way too many - again. I've been using Pegasus for over 20 years and I'm a packrat, so there are a million messages in there. And filters. And folders.

I thought maybe I could rename the filters for incoming mail. Then, it would all be in the New Mail folder when it arrives. And I could rename it back again once I have rebuilt the structure.

I suppose I could somehow start over from scratch. How do I get Pegasus to think I'm a brand new user?

Its only the trays that are missing. Your filtering will still work with the nominated folders. As I said you can disable the filters if you wish.

An alternative is to temporarily create a new user with appropriate server settings and go from there. All incoming mail will be in the new mail box and then the main folder when read.

You will be able to move it to the old mailbox after it is repaired.

It might be easier to put Pegasus into offline mode for awhile unless you have mail traffic that requires urgent attention.

Thanks. Might do that. It will be a LONG while, though...

[quote user="kauricat"]How do I create a new user? Identity?

Go to Addresses | User management on the main toolbar and click on new and set up the new User.. Create a shortcut for that User on your desktop.

Open the new User and set your server definitions in Tools | Internet options..
