Folder cannot be reindexed
The "right-click it and choose 'Recover deleted space'" does NOT work.  Keep getting 'mailbox open' error. Can't even delete folders.
Did you try Guy's suggestion of using the "Pegasus Mail Mailbox Maintenance Utility" (PMail\Programs\mbxmaint_ui.exe) three posts before yours in this thread? The utiity can be found in Pegasus Mail's "Programs" subdirectory and will only succed after shutting down Pegasus Mail. If it doesn't work this way reboot your machine and try again without ever opening Pegasus Mail before.

Hi,

I have folder with Emails and this folder is reported as invalid offset of index. I can do "reindex folder" it does not report any error, but the problem is not solved anyway. The result is that there is not possible to delete any mail from such a folder. Reindexing will undelete them. I hope that his is a defect of Pegasus Mail itself. You can download whole folder just here. File bad_folder.zip contains it packed to shorten download time.

I know the one workaroud this stupid situation. Create another folder, copy mails to the 2nd folder and then delete defective folder anyway.

Just a comment. Copying across from the damaged folder to a new one should fix things. As the likely candidate for causing the problem is probably quite recent, try sorting the folder content by date, and selectively copy from the earliest message to somewhere near the latest dated message (note the date range used).

Between copying selected messages, open the new folder to see if the error occurs. If so the problem message is in the latest batch of messages copied. It may well be that it seems you have copied everything, in which case you are done.

Also, note that deleting a message from a Pegasus Mail folder simply removes it from the folder's index (the .PMI) and does not remove the message from the folder itself (the .PMM).

Re-indexing a folder will read the contents of the folder and place all message info into the index, which is what Pegasus Mail uses to display the contents of the folder.

The only way to really delete a message or messages is to delete them from the folder, close it, right-click it and choose 'Recover deleted space'.

Try to use the  "Pegasus Mail Mailbox Maintenance Utility" (PMail\Programs\mbxmaint_ui.exe).

 Checking 'FOL04224.PMM'...
Message 2477: expected Ctrl+Z at offset 18262527.
!! Found internal consistency error:
#016 Character before start of message is not Ctrl+Z.

Repairing folder 'T:\Test\bad_folder\FOL04224.PMM'...
#008 Parser failure during rebuild operation (badly corrupt master file?)
Folder repair completed normally - checking message IDs...
Made 15 ID corrections to folder 'FOL04224.PMM'.
ID checking and correction completed without errors.
** Repair process completed normally. **

Compacting folder 'T:\Test\bad_folder\FOL04224.PMM':
Performing pre-compaction consistency check...
Checking 'FOL04224.PMM'...

Now compacting folder to recover space occupied by deleted messages...
Folder 'T:\Test\bad_folder\FOL04224.PMM' successfully compacted.

I have managed to fix this issue by copying all Emails to another folder and removing a folder. So the maintenance utility is not needed. Unfortunately this situation is not rare and occurred on many folders.

The only way to really delete a message or messages is to delete them

from the folder, close it, right-click it and choose 'Recover deleted

space'.

But for the particular folder, Recover deleted space does not work. It simply fails. As far as I guess that this is PegasusMail bug, I have reported it here. It would be nice to get it fixed.

The "right-click it and choose 'Recover deleted space'" does NOT work.  Keep getting 'mailbox open' error. Can't even delete folders.

This is on my Win7 Pro 64bit desktop.
