Windows 10

[quote user="Invictus"][quote user="petersumm"]

Hi, Invictus

Did you ever find a solution?  We're having the same sort of issues with networked Pegasus and Windows 10 here.  It works fine on the Windows 7 machines.

Thanks,

Peter

Hello Peter,

No I never got a solution.

I only have 2 clients running win 10 & as human beings we have got used to it.....but I really would like to get to the bottom of it.

Try running in compatibility mode.

Our configuration:

-WinPMail version: Version 4.63 (Win32), Dec 22 2011, build ID 325

(I plan to upgrade to the latest version of Pmail sometime soon).

-Program files installed in shared folder on Windows Server 2012 R2.

-Domain users granted all permissions EXCEPT Full control & Special permissions.

-Clients run the executable from a shortcut pointed to a mapped

drive for the shared folder.

Windows 7 Pro clients were working fine.

Recently I setup some Windows 10 Pro version 1709 machines.

Pegasus Mail crashes after around 5 minutes on Win10Pro.

I configured the shortcut to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode - same problem.

Then I changed to Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode, and no more crashes.

Hello

It has begun: the roll out of Windows 10! ;-)

Are there already some tests done with Pegasus running under Win 10 (Tech. preview)?

I don't find any postings here about using W10 & Pmail.

I'm especially interested in Pegasus version 4.52 and W10 64 bit combination.

Works great on my system.  I have W10 and Pegasus 4.7

I think the only thing mentioned and it was the same for Windows 8 was that you needed to install Pegasus outside of c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files (86)

It works OK in general. However, I have not managed to set it up as the default mail program. Does anyone have any ideas?

Pmail 4.71 and Win10 Pro RTM

OK. I wrote before properly testing it.  If you run WSSETUP.EXE from the PMAIL folder it works. It sets up the interface. Then you can register it as the default email program.

I have it installed under Program Files (x86), seems to work ok. Any reason to consider moving it?

Oops, turns out it's installed under c: not Program Files. (tried to delete this reply, not allowed)

I'm also running Win 10, seems to work ok. Though I'm a bit concerned about Peg becoming an orphan program - is it still under active development?

Thanks Brian. Guess the download page also provides a good indication -

It's gonna be a sad day if Peg ever reaches EOL, with no replacements in sight...

Not so great here! - I have a number of win10 machines using a networked setup of Pegasus Mail.

All the instances of Pegasus on win10 repeatedly crash after about 5 minutes. Pegasus will continue to process mail, but as soon as you try to, say, read one email, down it goes......

any ideas anyone?

Submitting a crash dump might be helpful.  See info about the MiniDump extension in this post:

I've installed 4.70 on Windows 10 64bit a month ago using the installer with default options. No any problems so far. I've managed to set it up as a default mailer using the standard windows tools.

Invictus has a network install which changes the game when compared to a local install.  We've seen numerous reports of problem free operation on Win10 so I think troubleshooting needs to be on the "network" part.  Two things that immediately come to mind are permissions & power management (make sure Win10 isn't putting the NIC to sleep).

I might be helpful to confirm the type of network install.  The original post indicates mail is downloading fine which makes me think there are local installs of Pegasus Mail and the mailboxes are on one machine rather than a single multi-user install.

I am interested in your comment about ensuring the NIC does not get shutdown. I cannot find an option in Win 10 to turn this on/off.  But I have been seeing this kind of problem for some time. I was letting my machine go to "sleep" overnight and apon waking the machine up, the first check/fetch mail always failed with some kind of Winsock error. My solution has been to shutdown every night instead of selecting Sleep.

Martin,

I don't use Win10 so am just assuming that the power management is similar as in Win7 where the Power Management tab of the NIC properties (accessed via Device manager) contains an option allowing the PC the shut the device down to save power.  I have it disabled on my laptop and randomly experience the failed connection message in Peg when I wake from sleep.  It sounds like yours occurs much more consistently than mine.  I have not paid attention to occurrences when on battery vs. powered so don't know if that plays a role.

I don't know whether the setting in Power Management has anything to do with Sleep mode or if it just means the PC will shut down the NIC after a period of no traffic.

FWIW, I sleep my laptop overnight but shutdown Peg when I call it a night.

I have been using pegasus 4.7 with win 10 now for a couple of months now with no problems but now I find that all my internet settings, in pegasus, have to be re-entered when my PC is switched on after being off overnight. Has anyone any suggestions? The only changes to the PC have been the Microsoft updates.

Settings are maintained in number of different ways and files so please provide additional information, specifically what settings are needing to be reentered.

Here it is.

On starting Pegasus I get the welcome screens and offers of tutorials as if I am a first time user. My preferred screen settings have gone. All the internet mail options POP3 and SMTP settings and host addresses have disappeared although the host addresses and settings can be recalled with the ADD function. A number of the settings and preferences in the Mail Options also disappear. Global mailbox preference settings also go.Quite a list and a real pain

Sounds like something is preventing Pegasus Mail from saving configuration settings.  Go to Help > About Pegasus Mail the click the Info button.  Copy the contents of that window into a reply so we can see the status of the Pegasus Mail installation.
