Orphaned .MLF files?

As far as I can see membership files are not automatically deleted when a mailing list is removed.

While review configured mailing lists I found two .MLF files that were associated with mailing lists long deleted. Is this a fluke or does removal of a mailing list not delete the associated .MLF?
