Does anyone know if a default COLOUR for my posts and replies can be set?

Hi all -

Just wondering, does anyone know if there is a feature in the latest versions of PMAIL which allows the user to set a default COLOUR, so whenever they post a new email or reply, their text is a colour choice other than black?

Thanks,

Eleanor White

Text color can be changed but I don't know of a way to set a default color.

Edit: I have just figured out that you can save a message containing text color as stationary and then use it to create new messages. The text added in the body maintains the color. This won't help with replies. The Pegasus Mail option "Rich (formatted)" must be set to On.

Sorry to be a frequent pest, but I've run into another problem.

I was able to access the post-to-PMAIL-community-forum screen by a clickable entry in a black background, 3-item menu in my previous post about best version. Not the usual blue post-new-topic button at the topic list page.

Even searching with google for search strings like:

pmail community forum topics list

... I get no URL other than the landing page at the link https://community.pmail.com

There is no clickable item there which can take me to the topic list there. At least on my screen called up from Ontario, Canada.

Isn't there supposed to be a "forum" button on that landing page?

There have also been three other very strange "glitches" in recent days and they are strange enough that I'm wondering if I have a real time hacker on my case. These other strange occurrences are:

ONE. Ever 2 or 3 days, both the POP3 and SMTP setup definitions, customized for my ISP, totally disappear and I have to reinstate them. They always disappear during times I'm away from the PC. (I live alone and no one has access to my PC when I'm off line.)

TWO. I had a bizarre "glitch" with Turbotax, being the Canadian version, in which the support rep wrestled with the problem for a couple of hours to help me access the payment screen for their income tax software for this year.

The button to purchase only gave me the root URL, not the payment screen the button was supposed to take me to.

Eventually the support rep figured out that was the problem, and only by typing in the payment screen URL could I purchase and use their software.

Very much like what happens when I try to get the PMAIL list of topics screen to display, but I can't get the full URL to get past the opening landing page.

THREE. Increasingly, I'm getting a during-multiple-address-transmission error message which usually indicates a stoppage in transmission.

When I clear that message, PMAIL continues the transmission successfully, however, the message being sent is retained in the review-queued-mail screen and has to be cleared to prevent it's being sent twice.

Because Turbotax is being affected (apparently) this may not be a PMAIL problem but I thought I'd mention these occurrences in case they ring a bell for any other users.

Please don't bother with this post unless it appears there is something here that's common to other PMAIL users and helpful to know about.

The pane on the right is headed with the word "Categories". It should have been more appropriately named "Forum Categories" since each one is a link to that forum category. Regretfully, they don't look like links.

Are you running Pegasus Mail v4.81 public beta? Are the to your Home and New mailbox directories different? Are the definitions lost only when Pegasus Mail is restarted?
If yes to all, then you have encountered a known bug in v4.81. See this discussion for the details and workaround: https://community.pmail.com/index.php?u=/topic/12205/pop-and-smtp-definitions-hidden
If no to any then post back with version number and anything you can think of that might be happening on day two or three when the definition files disappear.

Regarding the Turbotax "purchase" button, did you open that message in a browser and try the button? If not, and you still have the message, try it. If the problems still exists then fault is with the message. If it works, then the problem was in the rendering of the message by Pegasus Mail. A separate discussion about it will get troubleshooting started and perhaps lead to a patch in IE Renderer if it is determined that is where the fault lies.

As for transmission failures of multi-address messages, if there are three recipients, and transmission fails for one of them, the message remains in the queue to be resent. IIRC, the resend will go to all three, but I am not certain about that. I think a new discussion should be started for this topic because it could become complex and will likely benefit from input by other forum members.

Thanks, Brian.

Getting to the topic list turns out to require a click on a tiny "show categories" click at the very top, which my aging eyes didn't pick up on.

Got it, and apologies.

As to the mailbox location problem, that didn't happen when I installed 4.8.1 public beta.

Years ago, one of the versions set me up so the mailbox is in C:\pmail\mail\ADMIN.

4.8.1 public beta picked up on that and kept that as the mailbox, and that worked fine.

My problem is that the POP3 and SMTP setup definitions keep getting deselected every 2 or 3 days. That's not the end of the world, but it would be nicer without it.

Thanks SO much for all your help!

We know this can occur under v4.81 when Pegasus Mail is restarted. Does your occur only following a restart?

Also, in Pegasus Mail, please go to Help > About Pegasus Mail and click the Info button. In the resulting data will be an entry showing the path to the "Home mailbox location" and one showing the path to the "New mailbox location". Confirm that they both are both C:\pmail\mail\ADMIN.

So, your Home and New mailbox locations are different. The disappearing POP3 and SMP host files are the result of a bug in the v4.81 public beta version of Pegasus Mail. When it starts up, it only looks in the New mailbox directory for the host configuration files, but they exist in the Home mailbox directory. So, it doesn't load them resulting in them not being listed as active. The "Add" function looks in both directories which explains why you can readily add them back. The workaround is to copy all .PND files from your Home mailbox directory (C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN) to your New mailbox directory (C:\PMAIL\MAIL).

I suspect your different Home and New locations was unintentional so you may be wondering how it happened. Well, somewhere early in the v4.7x era of Pegasus Mail the installer was changed such that a single user installation placed the Home mailbox directory in C:\PMAIL\MAIL whereas previous versions defaulted to C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN. So, a single user installation done overtop of an installation with the mailbox in \ADMIN results in New being in C:\PMAIL\MAIL and Home being in C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN. This condition does not affect the functionality of Pegasus Mail, except for the v4.81 bug which will be fixed in the next release.

Combining the Home and New mailbox directories is possible. This condition has been seen frequently enough that I created an instructional document on returning to having them both in C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN. This site does not have PM capability to privately share an email address so sharing such a document is a challenge. There is a area on this site for posting such a document, which I may have done and don't recall. I will look for it and then come back with an update on what I find.

Edit: I'm back. I uploaded that document to the add-ons section of this site. Reviewing the process might help with the decision if you are considering combining them.
