Can't tell from the image, but I got a message earlier that caused a crash, and this is what I did.
Restarted Pegasus, and it comes with the message that Pegasus had an earlier crash, and comes up with the preview mode turned off.

Clicked on the 2nd message, and turned on preview. Was able to open and view all the other messages with no problems. But going back to that message after taking care of them.
Again, Pegasus crashed on that message.

Went to the email (only CNM file in mail folder). Opened it with text editor, and was an obvious spam message, and had a number of large base64 encoded parts. Is a know issue if these attachments decode to have very long single lines with no white space. Since it was obvious spam, just deleted it.
In past have pulled out the long base64 sections, and decoded them.

Don't know if that applies in your messages, but would think it is a single message.

From the screenshot it appears that IERenderer is not available since its toolbar button is missing. If this is on purpose you should understand, that BearHtml or the built-in HTML renderer are not capable of dealing with current HTML requirements. If it's be accident I might be able to provide a test version - or you just try IER's most recent public version first to download from its webpage linked to below in my signature.

PS: BTW, Pegasus Mail doesn't work properly anymore on Windows versions below 7!!!

This could be a third occasion of IER not getting installed as part of a new installation. AFAIK, a reinstallation over top of the existing one has solved the problem. I know that with Win10 and Win11 it will produce its own UAC prompt but don't know about Vista. Perhaps Vista explains why IER is not installed. Thoughts Michael?

Thoughts Michael?

I tried to level IER up to supporting IE 8 and above which should work on VISTA (and even fully updated XP), but I haven't tested it on those versions anymore.

basically, i get the same error/crash when I go to turn on preview mode through the /Folders/ menu option...

but even before that, PMail gets looped into the internet options setup process telling me that my "mailbox you are attempting to access appears locked by another process"

The message leads me to believe that the mailbox directory has some sort of limited access. It can't be read-only since you have received new mail, so perhaps it does not have Modify permission. This could be explained by Pegasus Mail being installed in a \Program files directory. I know nothing of Vista but some research found a Wikipedia page that states that User Account Control was introduced in Vista. UAC is a safety mechanism prevents modification of files in protected system directories like \Program files. This restriction prevents the normal functionality of Pegasus Mail so if this is the case, Pegasus Mail will need to be installed in a unprotected location.
