MKQUOT 1.11 by Jan Sjberg <janne@sjoberg-trading.se>

DESCRIPTION:

Pegasus Mail for Windows has a great function that lets you put information
in your signature that changes every time you send a new message. The
information is randomly chosen from the file RQUOTES.R

The problem is that the format of RQUOTES.R makes it hard to write many
different signatures. The solution is MKQUOT. It takes a file containing
text strings in normal text format, and converts it to RQUOTES.R format.

INSTALLATION:

Installation is very simple. Just unzip the file MKQ111.ZIP into your
Pegasus resources directory (often C:\PMAIL\RESOURCE). Then edit the file
COMPILE.BAT with any text editor, such as EDIT. Change the line that reads
"copy rquotes.rsc ..\mail\rquotes.pms" so that it points to the path where
you have your mail folder.

FORMAT OF THE INPUT FILE:

Make sure the input file is in ASCII text format, not in some word-processing
format. Every set of lines should be separated by 1 blank line. See the
sample file SAMPLE.TXT for an example. If the input file has more than 1
blank line after each other, the result will be a blank text segment in the
RQUOTES.R file. The input file should be in the same directory as MKQUOT.

RUNNING MKQUOT:

After installing MKQUOT and preparing the input file, simply type MKQUOT at
the DOS-prompt to start the program. MKQUOT will ask you for the name of the
input file. After that, the program will ask you if you wish to create a new
RQUOTES.R file, or append to the old one. If you choose to create a new one,
all information in the old RQUOTES.R will be destroyed. MKQUOT will now "do
it's thing".

You will see, for a short time, all the input lines, and the output
equivalents. If you are adding a large number of lines, or you have a slow
computer, you can start the program with the command line MKQUOT /NOSHOW.
This will disable the showing of the input and output lines, thereby
increasing the program's speed.

After MKQUOT is finished, type COMPILE to run the COMPILE.BAT batch file.
Make sure you have modified the file, as the section "Installation"
describes.

KNOWN BUGS:

MKQUOT doesn't really check for the /NOSHOW parameter, it only counts the
number of parameters, and if the number of parameters are one, MKQUOT assumes
the parameter is /NOSHOW, no matter what the parameter really is. This is
because I was lazy when I wrote this part of the code, and will probably be
fixed in the next version (if there will be one).

MKQUOT will produce blank text segments in RQUOTES.R if the input file has
more than 1 blank line after each other.

FUTURE FUNCTIONS:

I'm not sure if there will be a new version of this program, but if there
will be, the /NOSHOW bug will probably be fixed, the program will be faster,
and it will check for, and remove, multiple blank lines.

QUESTIONS, BUG REPORTS, NEW IDEAS:

HOW TO GET MKQUOT:

You can always get the latest version of MKQUOT by sending an email to
janne@sjoberg-trading.se with the subject SEND MKQUOT.

MKQUOT MAILING LIST:

I have started a *very* low volume mailing list, which is the first place
I'll write to if there ever is a new version. If you got MKQUOT directly
from me, by writing an email to me, you are allready on the list. Otherwise,
send an email to janne@sjoberg-trading.se with the subject SUBSCRIBE MKQUOT.

FREEDOM OF USE:

MKQUOT may be freely distributed, as long as all the files in MKQ111.ZIP
are included. It may also be freely modified, if you, in the program or the
documentation, say "This program is based on MKQUOT 1.11 by Jan Sjberg
<janne@sjoberg-trading.se>. To get the latest original version of MKQUOT,
send an email to janne@sjoberg-trading.se with the subject SEND MKQUOT".

A WORD OF ADVICE:

Do not use longer signatures than necessary. Long signatues use up large
amounts of bandwidth, especially if sent to a mailing list with many
subscribers, ultimatly lowering the overall speed of using the internet, and
costing your letters recipients extra money if they have to pay for their
download volume or time.
