I've just tried to install version 4.91, but get a setup error message saying a file was unable to be uploaded as I may have insufficient rights to copy the file, or if upgrading (that I am) a destination file may be read-only or in use (I closed Pegasus before attempting the upgrade).

Could this problem be anything to do with my original problem?

Thanks and regards, Chris

What's your install location (directory)? Sounds like being in some kind of protected system path, maybe Windows 11 now restricts a location that previous versions did not (or you manually granted access rights without remembering).

Also #1, a reboot of the PC immediately before attempting the upgrade will insure that no file is actually "in use".

Also #2, the description of the hang made me think that there was a popup you couldn't see that was waiting for a response.

Suddenly today, my Pegasus Mail program has 'frozen'. Although I can highlight a message or a folder, clicking on it doesn't open it, or do any of the other menu commands open, apart from those across the very top.

I am wondering if it is some sort of memory issue because I have been using Pegasus Mail since 2004, not only for email but for my filing system by creating numerous folders and sub-folders. The size of my current PMAIL folder on my C drive is 17.8gB.

I am using the latest version of Pegasus (4.80.102smile with Windows 11 on a desk-top computer with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-14700, 2100 Mhz, 20 Core(s), 28 Logical processor and 16gB RAM.

Thanks for any help and/or advice, Chris

I have bought a new laptop with Windows 11 and installed Pegasus Mail v4.91.1746 on it. I then replaced the C:\PMAIL\MAIL folder with its namesake that was on my old Windows 10 / Pegasus Mail v4.73.639 laptop. Its a big folder by now, 6,415 files and 10,3GB, my whole mail archive since 1997. Replacing the MAIL folder always worked, but this time I only see an empty inbox. Does this method only work if you do it from v4.91 to v4.91? It used to work between earlier versions, I'm pretty sure. I don't want to say goodbye to my mail history of 28 years!

I am a long time fan and user of Pegasus Mail (probably 20 years or so), so I was shocked to learn something new today, and what I'm wondering is: can this feature be disabled?

By complete accident (I was intending to press Ctrl-S to save an e-mail to HTML) I pressed Ctrl-D while reading a message and it immediately disappeared. It did not get moved to another folder and it did not appear in "Deleted Messages"!

As you know, if you press D or Del in a message, or in folder view with one or more messages selected, those messages are moved to the "Deleted Messages" folder. This is fine. That's not what I'm referring to.

After a little further experimentation, I confirmed that Ctrl-D does this "instant and hard" delete in the message viewer but not in folder view. In folder view, if you press Ctrl-Del, you get this same "instant and hard" delete, but not in message viewer.

I do not find this information in the Help file, but perhaps I missed it. I do have occasion to use keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl-C and Ctrl-S on a regular basis, so an accidental Ctrl-D is not an entirely surprising mistake on the rare occasion.

And, now that I think of it, there have been one or two times over the years when a message disappeared and I never did find it!

Does anyone know of a way to turn these two keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl-D and Ctrl-Del) off?

Thanks in advance, and my apologies if this actually is in the help file and I just missed it.

I had a slight problem with my computer but got it fixed.

Now when I go into (tools, internet options) and run the (smart setup wizard)
with the correct e-mail address, it then shows under (receiving (POP3)) my
address with a space before and after the @ sign.

I have had people send me test messages using the address without the
spaces and I can receive them but only by selecting the address with the
spaces on the Selective mail download screen.

If I select the address without the spaces it tells me that the username or
password is wrong.

This is no big problem but I would like to know why it does this

Hi PM-Community,

I've found a bug when using "Copy to self"-option "ask at send time which folder to put it in".

PM will not use the selected folder, but the FIRST folder (or personal PMM-file) found in HIERACH.PM or Public-Folders-Trees
with the same (case-insentive) Display-Name.

As I tested, PM will first inspect HIERACH.PM and, if not found there, it will walk through expanded public-folders-trees and put it there into first found folder with matching name.

This happens at least with 4.8 and 4.9, too.

I will now create a script to find matching names and than manual rename each to make it uniq.

TIA for any ideas/clues.

Hello:

I have been using [Pegasus Mail v4.73] under [Wine] in a Linux box for over 10 years without any issues other than maybe a PEBKAC once in a blue moon.

I have had a free email account at [gmx.net] for more or less the same time, same PMail version, same OS progressive releases, same box.

Up to this morning, I had never had any issues retrieving or sending email via POP3 / SMTP or reviewing the SPAM folder via IMAP.

As always with [PMail], a fast, smooth and uneventful retrieval.

This morning I was not able to retrieve mail from my [gmx.net] account (always with selective download, arguably PMail's best feature) or see my folders via IMAP.

The PMail POP3 Network protocol error pop-up says this:
"The host claims that either the user name or password you have supplied is invalid".

I checked and they are as always and was able to log into the [gmx.net] webmail page and review my emails without any problem.

Just in case, I changed my PW adding a special character to the string, checked it worked with webmail access and tried again with [PMail], but that was also a no-go.

This is what the [gmx.net] server says:

[code]
18:39:00.318: --- 2 Dec 2025, 18:39:00.318 ---
18:39:00.318: Connect to 'pop.gmx.net', timeout 150 seconds.

18:56:10.385: --- Connection closed at 2 Dec 2025, 18:56:10.385. ---
18:56:10.386:
[/code]

It would seem that it is not a UserID ( ie: "14067985" ) problem as it gets an OK from the server.

The problem comes right after that. (ie: -ERR authentication failed)

This worked perfectly well yesterday, why not today?
Could it be that something has changed on that side?

I can wait and see if it fixes itself because it there's a glitch with the [gmx.net] servers (it is not a critical account) or contact them using Google translate as everything is in German, but it is not an easy task.

Unfortunately, creating a session log gave me the same output I posted above, so it has not been of any help.

I'd appreciate any input the list can give me.

Thanks in advance.

Best,

S.

Hello everyone, The time has come and my provider has switched emails to Outlook.office365. Now I have the problem that I can no longer access my mailbox via pmail. POP and IMAP are enabled for the mailbox, but I get the message ‘incorrect password or incorrect user’. Is this related to OAuth, and can I only use an alternative to pmail at the moment, or is there a way to regain access via pmail?

Settings:
Server: office.outlook365.com
POP Port: 995
SMTP: smtp.outlook365.com

A most annoying thing just happened. My PC (Win 10 64-bit) crashed when Pegasus Mail was running, and when I rebooted and opened Pegasus Mail again, I got an unexpected message stating that I was using and older version of the program.

Somewhat bemused I clicked through the notifications, and then found out something even more unexpected. In the Folders Window, the tree structure of filing trays had completely disappeared. Now all my folders, hundreds of them, are in a single list one after another, in alphabetical order. Tedious to say the least.

Is there a way to get the filing trays back? My mailbox is backed up daily, so if there's a file missing, it's likely I can retrieve a copy from yesterday.

Subject: Urgent Help Needed with Phantom Email Accounts

Good morning, everyone,

I hope this message finds you well. I'm reaching out because I've encountered a frustrating issue with my AOL/Verizon account, and I could really use your insights.

When I log in, I successfully retrieve emails from my two main accounts (...@verizon.net and ...@gmx.com). However, I've been receiving failed login errors for two email addresses that I no longer use (...@verizon.net and ...@gmx.com). This situation is causing some concern.

I've thoroughly checked the "Internet Options" but haven't been able to locate these phantom accounts. I'm determined to resolve this issue and would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to track them down and either delete or deactivate them.

Your constructive feedback would mean a lot to me during this busy season.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Happy Holidays,
Tom G, Sr.

Last night, Pegasus was able to log in to my host, AOL, with no problem. This morning, I am getting a login error indicating that my username or password are incorrect. Pegasus is doing the login, so there is no question that I may be typing it in incorrectly.

Not sure if the problem is with AOL or with Pegasus. Is there a newer version of Pegasus I may need to download?

Anyone else having this issue?

Pegasus is the main reason I stayed with windows this long but I have finally had it with windows. I am converting to Linux mint and I have been testing Pegasus 4.91 under Crossover. So far it works delightfully well - the only real problem is that I have to disable IERenderer, which crashes. I can't make a useful contribution to translating the crash other than to upload the dump file. If it can be made linux-friendly then Pegasus should have a whole new user base.

In the meantime, thanks to all who contribute to this best-of-internet program.

I have been using Pegasus for it seems 20 years. Just a week or two ago this started when I load Pegasus it takes maybe 30-60 seconds before it loads? Always was 5-10 seconds. Same computer, and I don't think anything is new? Can someone point me in a direction? I got Windows 11, lots of memory, and using 4.8

I just exited Pegasus and reloaded it and it was fast. So it seems only first start in AM or if program has been closed awhile?

This is a reminder to everyone who has or intends to update from 4.80 to 4.91 that the spell checker is fixed in 4.91. If you had set your USRDICT5.PMD file as read-only in 4.80 to workaround its spell checker bug you can/should remove that read-only attribute after upgrading to 4.91 to return the spell checker to its full functionality.

Running Pmail v.4.91.1746 on Windows 10 PC.
The following happens on two separate machines running the same set-up, one a laptop, one a desktop.

When sending SMTP [edited], Pegasus hangs (aqua ring, no functionality, not even X out) for a time period - momentary with small size messages, longer with bigger attachments. The short ones are tolerable, but when sending a 10MB attachment, the total message send time can be several minutes of PMail hung up (progress clocks in short bursts, not slow crawl). If I try to use PMail during the 'pauses', it grays out and starts acting locked up. But either way, eventually coughs out the email.

The interesting bit is it only happens sending via one host SMTP [edited] server (to which I recently switched one account).

I have a different host with which sending pop this does not happen.

I have worked with the problem host (he's a small shop and very hands on) and we are not finding anything in logs that explains what's going. His end just shows a really slow pop transfer with no messages from my end to hold, or of any issue. On my end each package transfer is recorded, just with inexplicable time gaps between them when it hits the large attachment email. Doing this live with the host on the phone watching logs his logs are showing his system is just waiting on me, no error or problem indicator from me, nor on his end indicating it's his system pausing things.

I'm not too technically experienced (but a quick learner), he is experienced, and from what we see it seems like there's a PMail program / code issue with something about transferring to his server (which PMail does not have with the other host).

Any ideas?

Hi all my first post. I am attempting to get pmail to save the last state of the in-box between sessions.
Currently when I close and reopen pmail it automatically sorts the inbox urgent first by date then the non urgent by date.
How do I get the inbox to stay in the same state "unsorted" I left it?
Thanks

When I try to send e-mails PM's window becomes "milky" and I have to close the program - the program became unresponsible and it has to be closed forcefully (I am asked by windows ...) .

Those "not sent" e-mails now line up (14 already) in some "!to-be-sent" queue and pegasus asks me each time at startup if I now want to send them.

But this does never work.

If I deny to send this e-mails (at the start of PM) I can get into PM and can retrieve and read e-mails as if nothing is wrong.

But "sending" just does not work anymore.

I remember I had this problem about 15+ years ago but I don't remember how I fixed it.

Can someone help?
