Thanks for that info Martin, I should have guessed the info originated from the SMTP server based on the reference number quoted. I finally found the errors by resending and using Internet Session log . The reference number then jumped out with the preceding line containing the address in error. FYI, the errors were  1: a comma after the .com and   2: ".."  (2 dots) between the server name and com

I also noted that the personal name (in quotes) included with each address is NOT transmitted by Pegasus to the SMTP server based on the log entries and on observation of an email received from the lists. Only the email address itself (between the <    > is sent. However I will continue to add them as some of the weird addresses people use don't make it easy to identify the address outside the email process itself. I use an automated spreadsheet to add the info and to allow me to count the number of emails per list to stay within the  number per list server limits. (There are other clients that will do this automagically but I prefer Pegasus!!!)

The errors originated the the spreadsheet and data base sent to me by the database person each time I have to do a mailing (about 1700 persons and using 17 lists due to the maximums addresses per list  imposed by the smtp server - (a spam avoidance measure)!!!)

I have been lucky in finding this type of error before, not so much this time, but I now have another tool in my arsenal  for tracking them down.....

 Thanks again

Stuart

If I reply, but do not choose to "Include the text of the original message", then I get a blank message (as expected), but there is no signature in it.

This is a change from 4.61, which did show the signature even when not including the original text. (I have "Add this variant upon message creation" checked.)

It appears that the signature is added as the message is sent, and shows up in the version delivered to addressees, but is not included in the version that shows up in the "Copy self" folder (again, a change from 4.61). (I have 4.61 running on a second machine at home and have done side by side tests.)

It's a small thing, but I liked the way the signature appeared in 4.61. Is this a bug, a misconfiguration on my part, or ...?

thanks

Randy
I have the original rogue file which I can send to anyone who thinks that they

may be able to resolve the problem.
What size (compressed)? Which HTML renderer, which version of it (IERenderer provides an About dialog via its toolbar button menu displaying it, BearHtml shows its version on Pegasus Mail's status bar if an HTML message is open and you press Shift + F1)?

I understand that you can also run pconfig.exe on a 32 bit machine and then copy the resulting pmail.cfg file to the Pegasus Mail executables folder on the 64 bit machine.   When you run pconfig set your mailbox locations to c:\mike\pmail\mail\~8.

Ta DA!!!!!

As Caisson recommended, I updated to V4.62 on the old machine, and moved it enmasse over to the new.  Still getting the incompatibility message when trying to run pcconfig though, so I tried Brian's suggestion, running pcconfig on the old machine, then copying the.cfg file over to the new.  No muss, no fuss, and we're cooking with gas!!

Thanks guys!

I had to change my password for the BT email service due to hacking.  Since I changed it, I have started to get the message above.  When I compose a new email message, then click on SEND (the icon), I get an error message headed;-

SMTP  Network or Protocol Error sending mail.
David, you will now have to change it again as you just posted it on a public forum!

I suspect the error message is due to a BT error - see if it goes away after a few hours.
I have been reading about the IE Renderer upgrade and have attempted to determine what settings this 'problematic' user account has set. In doing so, I have disabled the IE Renderer setting which I presume default to BearHTML? and the problem no longer exists.... given that we do not have a reliance on Windows Internet Explorer for browsing and most of the PCs on the network have have not upgraded to IE 7.0 (we all use Chrome), perhaps this is the root of the problem?
It's very likely IE 6 related, but here's making suggestions about dealing with such issues. Aside from this updating IE to the most recent supported version (IE 8 on XP) is always recommended for security reasons.
So, if I chose to apply the IERenderer .exe file - I cannot find an .exe. file of the same name in the Pegasus installation folder to overwrite...?
Sorry, but did you happen to read the highlighted parts of the IERenderer update page (the same text is included on top of History.htm as provided with the EXE in the download archive)? Part of it says The download archive ... provides an installer ..., IOW: Running the EXE on you server should apply the update for you, and if this doesn't work the announcement also makes a suggestion (and provides a URL) about using an unpacker for doing it manually.
BUG : I have managed to recreate - if you 'Change User' and attempt to invoke the IE Renderer dialog from the toolbar button nothing happens....
This is actually one of the reasons (along with more serious ones like crashes) why this feature isn't supported anymore (and was removed from the user interface) since v4.5, so don't expect to see any fixes if you continue using it.

I would try a POP3 download (not selective) of unread mail and see what it brings down.  During testing you can configure to leave mail on the server just be aware that your POP settings in Gmail configuration override the settings in the email client when it comes to the handling of messages accessed by POP.

Thanks again, and this just FYI, in case it is useful.  Somehow (I can't remember how or, even, really, why) I had configured and was running pmail (version 4.52?) from the Vista "Program Files\PMail" directory.  I know this is so, because the shortcuts I ran it from refer to this location.  It's now back in the default location.

Maybe you can explain what you are trying to do.  I have given you the instructions as to how to find the SMTP, POP3, and IMAP4 setup pages and the instructions for filling out the pages.  Have you done this?  What else do you need?

Interesting suggestion, calsson, but I've been using Pegasus a long time and there are zillions of cnm files.  A search for a missing one would be a futility.
Only new mail messages exist as individual CNM files.  The suggestion was in response to your indication that you could not find your new mail messages and more particularly to establish whether you might have inadvertently created a second new mail repository.

Hi Jerry,

Interesting, it wasn't behaving before, but now, after removing signatures and starting from scratch with your detailed look to make sure all is in order, it is back to working proper.

New emails on each identity IS showing up as originally per Pre-Crash.   So far so good.

I will keep a close eye on those sigs to make sure they are correct and complete, if all goes well and fingers crossed, we should be good to go.

Thank you again for the suggestions and double check of proper settings.

Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year to you & yours. Enjoy your holidays!

Trouble ticket is now closed.

Hi Michael

Many thanks for your prompt response and assistance. Yes, I tried searching the forum for about an hour before posting my query; large forum! Also tried the FAQs since I figured it would be a fairly common issue. Followed both your links. Encountered a problem following the advice of the first in so far as the new machine doesn't appear to have a backup facility in the system tools (!!) whereas my old machine does. Ended up borrowing a big external drive and just copying the whole shebang over oldstyle. Thanks very much again for responding.

Regards

Lorcán

Thanks, I got your dump reports and forwarded them to David Harris' detailed bug report account (you should get a copy). In general it would be better if you could follow MiniDump's instructions as much as possible since the error report message created by MiniDump in the affected Pegasus Mail user's draft manager provides more detailed information especially about versions of all involved modules. Fortunately they aren't really required in this case, so it didn't matter too much.
Just for everyone: The issue was caused by an unavailable network printer (see (e.g.) for more details). Herbert, could you mark your issue as resolved: There's a special selection control at the top right of the title bar in your starter post for this thread.

Which font did you choose for reading mail? On which version of windows? Is that font capable showing unicode/UTF-8 characters?
