An error occurred while attempting to verify the file type of <index.php>:

Do you want to allow your browser to download it nevertheless?
This is a fraud warning, the issue is described by the error code, if it only affects certain (trustable) domains you can add them to IERenderer's list of Local IP addresses in its configuration dialog like this:
My default system debugger is configured to be Visual Studio (even though I have WinDbg installed as well). When the exception occurred in Pegasus, the Exception dialog gives the option to open it in my Debugger without any intermediate DMP file saving involved. If this or any other exception occurs again, I'll see if I can investigate a better way to capture the dump file itself.
I assume it works more or less like WinDbg, so there might be a similar approach for exporting a dump file.

Is there a type error in you post are are actually using 4.51 which is quite old and not normally used with Vista or newer systems. Did you actually mean 4.61 version? current would be 4.62 version. http://download-us.pmail.com/w32-462.exe which does include improvements in download speed or checking messages if left on the server.
I've always had it "on demand", ever since I started using PMail, back in about 1995 or so, and never encountered this problem.
Times are changing: It turned out that the ... on demand setting would be causing performance issues (plus rightout POP3/SMTP failures) in connection with some HTML rendering features (a rather complex issue): Don't forget to restart Pegasus Mail after changing this option.

There is a file named PMAIL.USR which is located in the root mailbox folder.  This file contains the list of local users (mailboxes) that Pegasus uses to identify local users and distribute mail directly to a local user mailbox.  You should be able to see the list of local users by using the Addresses|User management menu option in Pegasus Mail.  If you don't see a list of local users then there may be a permissions issue.  In order to send local mail you need permissions that allow you to read files in the root mailbox folder and permissions that allow you to write to each mailbox folder.

If this doesn't help you sort it out provide more details about the location of the user mailboxes and also provide us with the Pegasus Mail installation information (copy and paste the contents of Help|About Pegasus Mail|Info button.

Are you sure that the "rich text" has been selected?
That was the key. I wasn't selecting that option, however that raises another issue in terms of consistency.

While looking at this I tried forwarding messages containg hyperlinks generated by different applications.

Without the richtext option some work and some don't, e.g. a message initially generated by Outlook Express worked while one from Outlook did not.

All work if the rich text option is selected.

I suppose the questions that raises for the non-technical among us are:

Why the initial message from Pmail doesn't need richtext selected to work, but the forwarded message does?

Why some forwarded messages work without the richtext options and some don't?
The first question I've answered.  It is checked automatically in a new message containing a hyperlink.

That would be a good addition to the forwarding setup.
Where do I get the update for this extension?
That's why I pointed you to the other thread: Vincent Fatica appears to be its creator, so ask him whether the extension has already been replaced with a fixed one.

The old machine ran XP and the new one is Windows 7. The hard drive crashed on the old one, so I don't have access to it. A friend was able to salvage just the PMAIL files, so I was able to access those to get the info. Both the old computer and new one are single user machines. I don't remember which version of Pegasus I was using before the crash. Following is the information you asked me to copy in.

One last note: This issue doesn't seem to be causing any particular problems that I can tell. It is just annoying to have those extra lines in the directory structure.

 Thanks,

Freddy

You have installed an older version of winpm-32 and the oldest that can work with win7 successfully. I had thought you were installing 4.62 which is the current version but I see differently. However 4.52 should work ok for now and you can then update again soon only it should be easy and routine update.

Can you do any screen shot or any directory listing so we could see what those extra lines look like and what they might be?

If necessary we might need to exchange some information via private message with attachment. Are you and old school user who might be familiar with o9erating via Command prompt and how to do directory and file listings and how to copy and save to a win7 text program like Notepad?  Have you discovered Clip yet? It sure comes in handy at times like this and I use it a lot to run commands and have it saved automatically to windows clipboard where it can then be pasted into any Windows applications.
Virscan.ini would be in the \programs location or same place where winpm-32 is located. You may or may not be using Virscan extension. You can pick up a copy from the Community downloads site or from Martin Ireland home page also.
Thanks, Jerry. I was unfamiliar with the Virscan extension for PMail. I was getting even more confused because I came across a "Virscan.inf " when I googled "virscan.ini"

I've used PMail for quite a few years without the Virscan extension so I guess I'll continue unless there's an overriding reason to install it.

My apologies for the multiple posts in this thread. When I hit "Post" I got no indication that they went through, so I hit it a few more times.[:(] I hope a moderator can delete the excess.

Thank you, David.  I'll just start immediately writing the attachment in the destination folder instead of doing it later.  That really is more efficient anyway.  I appreciate your help.
The consequences of this bug are obviously of great concern.   Apart from today's 615 incoming messages, we have well over 20.000 ( unreadable)  messages archived in individual client folders.

We are most grateful for any assistance.
Do we get some feedback about the suggestions made in this thread? I'd also like to suggest trying a modified cache path for IERenderer (via its configuration dialog) if you don't just disable it completely ...
I set up my "google apps" acct via POP, but it seems all my google apps Gmail emails went into 'new mail' folder .... there are 20,000+ ,
Pegasus Mail can only deal properly with new mail (sort, e.g.) with up to 750 message in the new mail folder, but it shouldn't crash (only take extremely long to finish parsing new mail). If it crashes there's something else involved: Are you using the latest version (4.62)?

To avoid these crashes you should move all new mail messages (files with CNM extension) out of the respective directory, but I'm afraid figuring out which one crashes Pegasus Mail might be a painful task since you would have to move these files back until opening one of them crashes Pegasus Mail again ... We would be interested in the crashing one, of course, but only if you're already using 4.62, otherwise it might be enough to just install the update.

HUGE Thank you for the advice,

I thought my 4.41 version was the newest, It wasn't.

Checking one's version to make sure it is most current, is the best suggestion but never mentioned in the results of my original query searching for a an answer. So, I am hoping this message will appear in results for others who may experience similar issues.  Doing the upgrade to most recent version DID the trick, wow, blazing fast results when identifying unread messages on mail servers where mail is not immediately deleted upon download completion.

answering winsock question,  on demand was checked so changed it to always per Caisson and help sections suggestion.  But when rebooted and reloaded pmail, it was still slow, then did upgrade to 4.62, that worked.   Ahhhhhhhhhhh (a joy to check emails once again with short wait times)

Thanks to Michael and Caisson for their assistance.  I continue to be a big fan of Pmail.   Cheers Everyone    [ip][D][Y][H]

Thanks for these hints. Pegasus is found at /userid/.wine/dosdevices/c:/pmail but I cannot find Pmail.usr in the Pmail\mail dir but it is in Pmail\mail\mail. What programme do I need to read the .usr file?
You aren't running into a problem with case sensitive paths and file names are you?

By the way, "dosdevices/c:" is the same as "drive_c"
