Hello,
I just received a zero-byte message with two attachments (without names) as follows :
Alternative message formats :
Plain text - 0.0k
HTML text - 0.4k
Text - 2.1k

HTML text attachment content is :

<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<meta name="Generator" content="Microsoft Exchange Server">
<!-- converted from rtf -->
<style><!-- .EmailQuote { margin-left: 1pt; padding-left: 4pt; border-left: #800000 2px solid; } --></style>
</head>
<body>
<font face="Calibri" size="2"><span style="font-size:11pt;">
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
</span></font>
</body>
</html>

Text attachment content is a Microsoft Exchange 2010 VCALENDAR appointment :

BEGIN:VCALENDAR
METHOD:REQUEST
PRODID:Microsoft Exchange Server 2010
VERSION:2.0
BEGIN:VTIMEZONE
TZID:W. Europe Standard Time
....................................
END:VCALENDAR

The only way I found to get the message content was to save the Text attachment in a text file, to open it with Notepad and to find the lines with tags DTSTART and DTEND :

DTSTART;TZID=W. Europe Standard Time:20220601T090000
DTEND;TZID=W. Europe Standard Time:20220601T120000

Is there an easyest procedure in PM to open this type of message ?.
Many thanks for your help ...

My wife has just acquired a new laptop computer. All her files were installed in place. When I attempted to complete the update a file appeared demanding her username and all likely ones were rejected I'm sure this has been asked before but I want to know how to get out of this.

I've been trying to understand the ramifications of Google's drive towards Oauth. I'm still a Eudora user, and I've been looking for alternatives, including Pegasus and Pandora.

No one could accuse Google of trying very hard to describe the upcoming May 30 changes consistently, or with clarity. In common with many, including David, I took their warnings to indicate that Oauth will become mandatory.

However a closer reading of at least some of their help pages does not support that conclusion. Look for example at

I think it's quite reasonable to conclude from the above that 1) turning on 2-Step Verification, and 2) creating app-specific passwords will be sufficient.

Naturally all will become clear in 2 weeks, and perhaps we'll all lose access then, but maybe there is some light at the end of this particular depressingly poorly documented tunnel?

I will say that I don't see why having Google accept an app-specific password instead of the one I used to use provides any security benefit whatsoever. But there again maybe I was atypical by already using a long randomized password.

In the header section of a Pegasus Mail message-reader window, some subject lines appear with unwanted spaces in the middle. An example from a message received today: shown as

Subject: Order delivered: Cupri nol Garden Furniture Sta…

"Cuprinol" is the intended word, without a space in the middle. It's shown correctly in the New mail folder contents list, but shown with the space in the top of the message reader.

The raw view of the message shows this for the subject, with a line break for continuation where the inappropriate space is:

Subject: =?UTF-8?Q?=F0=9F=93=A6_Order_delivered:_Cupri?=
=?UTF-8?Q?nol_Garden_Furniture_Sta=E2=80=A6?=

According to RFC 2047, section 6.2,

When displaying a particular header field that contains multiple 'encoded-word's, any 'linear-white-space' that separates a pair of adjacent 'encoded-word's is ignored. (This is to allow the use of multiple 'encoded-word's to represent long strings of unencoded text, without having to separate 'encoded-word's where spaces occur in the unencoded text.)

This is very far from a major problem, but it is a minor annoyance. The extra space is not new in Pegasus Mail 4.80.

I've loved using Pegasus Mail these past 30 years, since I found it 1991, but I now fear my emailing future - due to what the internet companies are imposing on users like myself in the supposed interests of safety and security.

Pegasus has always worked brilliantly for me but just recently my ISP (Yahoo) has begun refusing CCs and/or BCCs to certain addresses when I am using Pegasus. At such times Pegasus now shows me a message about alleged "pipelining". I've yet to work out how to get round this problem. I know, however, that it's to do with restrictions introduced by either the ISP or one or more of the tech companies.

For my Android device the closest email client I've found to Pegasus has been K-9, which I've been using for about 10 years, although it's nowhere near as sophisticated as Pegasus. But K-9 too has now begun presenting some emailing difficulties due to decisions taken by the tech companies.

At this moment I am finding the Yahoo app the most reliable email client in terms of immediate sending and receiving, but the Yahoo app is so pathetically basic, and like K-9 it doesn't allow me to manage all my incoming and outgoing emails in detail.

I have the Gmail app on my Android device too, and it's reliable, though not as rapid for me as the Yahoo app. But I have a dreadful feeling that Google has manipulated matters so that come the end of May, or some point thereafter, I may have to use Google's Gmail app only for trouble-free sending and receiving. One reason why being confined to using Gmail irks me is that I don't want Google being in possession of all my contacts information and every email I have sent and received until such time as I log into their site and delete material. I much prefer to keep things "local", on my own computer.

So I hope that come the end of May I will find some way of emailing so that I will continue to use Pegasus Mail as my primary email client, even though my emailing life may no longer be as trouble-free as it used to be.

I would be interested to hear if any of my above thoughts strike chords in other Pegasus users.

Since David Harris is about to release his OAUTH2-ready (for GMail) release I would like to know whether anyone updating to my latest IER release (three days ago) - as announced by its auto-update notification - encountered any bigger issues which I would need to fix before he includes this version with his Pegasus Mail update, please.

TIA

In case the auto-notification didn't work for you:

  • The small and easy things first: The installer does now automatically detect the German language module again like it used to (especially important for silent first time installs of Pegasus Mail).

  • Various kinds of incomplete Urls are now properly completed and handled accordingly.

  • The reformat and word-wrap reader options make a difference now with respect to breaking long strings (like Urls, e.g.).

  • There's a new option on IER's button menu for disabling the auto-update-check on program launch. And Pegasus Mail's status bar will display the results of checking if enabled. Otherwise the Update item will be re-enabled for checking manually.

  • If starting a message from IER's About... dialog the status report does now include whether BearHtml and graphics download are enabled by default.

  • Horizontal scroll wheel support has been implemented.The biggest issue was image handling: I certainly can't get it right since today's point is responsiveness ( ), in short: One design fits all devices. While web designers in former times were supposed to provide fixed sizes for fast rendering they are now supposed to keep it as flexible as possible, so if IER doesn't download graphics on purpose or due to errors they are substituted by some visual indicator of arbitrary size which will either be modified itself or modify the design no matter what - as it is supposed to. Anyway, I'm sure you'll notice yourself and propably like it or not ;-).

  • And there's just one thing left which didn't fit in my time schedule: I couldn't look deep enough into the various TER editor issues reported by several people, so be prepared for further updates to come!

I have just updated to the latest version 4.81 on my Windows 10 desk-top computer and now, when I try to open some of my previous emails, the program closes. Has anyone else experienced this, please, and is there a fix for it?

Fortunately, before updating, I made a copy of my complete PMAIL folder and decided to go back to that (version 4.73) while I sort out the problem with version 4.81. But, when I try to open the 4.73 program, it now asks for my Pegaus Mail username. I don't ever remember creating one, but as I have been using Pegasus since 2002, I may have created one a long time ago that I have since forgotten. Can anbody tell me how to find it, please and/or how to create a new one? In the meantime, I do not have access to my emails.

Thank for any help.

Some of my customers are receiving (Pegasus Mail 4.73) mails with an attachment named smime.p7m. Sometime this attachment is enclosed in a winmail.dat file.
Is there an easy and direct way to open a smime.p7m in PMail without storing the attachment and opening it with a dedicated viewer (i.e. Cryptigo p7m viewer).
Many thanks for your help ...

I am so very grateful to you for your help. Now I have another issue: When I close Pegasus, I get the message below:

626c0b8a78e8a

Looks pretty straightforward - just choose the "re-index" command, and let Pegasus fix it. Problem is that Pegasus responds that it "cannot reindex a folder that is currently open" . I did not open the folder, and I have been unable to figure out to "close" it. (I tried clicking on "Close all open trays" - all this did was to freeze the display May I throw myself on your mercy again? How do I close the offending folder so it can be reindexed?

I have just changed my broadband provider from Plusnet to Sky and cannot now send emails, although I can still receive them (through mail.plus.net). I have changed my SMTP setting in Tools / Internet options / Sending (SMPT) to smtp.tools.sky.com on port 587, which I see is the SMTP for Sky, but I am still getting the folloowing error message:

Many years ago I had a problem which the mods very kindly fixed, in the course of which I was instructed to install MiniDump to assist them. Ever since, when I open pmail, I get the error msg below:

6268759a3cf77

I hoped it would go away when I upgraded to 4.8, but it didn't. How do I reassure Pegasus that it does need to look for or load the extension?

I added the mailbox of a former pmail installation to my folder list and used it for years for separating private from work mails. The mailbox is not saved in the PMAIL\MAIL\ folder. Now I noticed that the additional mailbox disappeared from the folder list and cannot be readded via "Add mailbox to list" either (no reaction, no error, the program just doesn't do anything).
I don't know if there is a connection, I updated to v4.80 last week. But re-installing v.4.73 does not solve the problem.
Has anybody faced a similar problem and / or has an idea how to solve it? Thanks for your ideas and thoughts.

Dear all, isn't there really anybody who could tell me what my problem could be or when or why a mailbox cannot be added? What could I have done wrong while trying to add the mailbox? Or what can I do to enable Pegasus to add the mailbox again?
I really appreciate any help. Thank you.

The recent question about changing ISP from Plusnet to Sky started me wondering about what ISPs do with hosted email account content when the ISP service is cancelled. The prevalence and insistence on email access via IMAP means the email content is only accessible via that connection. Does anyone know what the typical procedure is by ISPs in regards to access to that email data when the ISP service is cancelled?
