I'm having a very bizarre glitch copying passages from Pegasus e-mails to MS Word (I'm still using XP3 MSWord2000 because I have thoroughly customized it to all my needs, much prefer its interface, and it continues to work quite well in my Win10...other than the following glitch).

I can highlight an entire e-mail message in Pegasus 4.81.1154, then copy and paste it into my old MSWord2000 for editing, etc. - and there is no problem doing this. Everything pastes completely.

However, if I select just a portion of that same message (a portion which even shows up in MS Office Clipboard just fine, ready to paste), trying to paste it into a MSWord page always results in nothing, a total blank!

BUT if I first copy and paste this portion into MS Notepad or MS Wordpad, it pastes just fine into those. And then if I copy that Notepad or Wordpad paste, then paste it into MSWord, it pastes just fine!! But this is a frustrating work-around that I would like to eliminate.

I would be thankful for any solution or even just an explanation for this strangely inconsistent copy-and-past mystery.

I'm not sure why, but every time I want to check for new messages in my Gmail account, hundreds of messages from 2006-2009 appear. I want to delete them from my account without downloading them, but I haven't been able to do so yet.
Will I have to download them all and let Gmail delete them from my Gmail space? Is there no other way?

Been using pmail for ~25 years and it's still my client of choice.

Currrently: Windows 7, Peg 4.72.572
(Yes, old, have been waiting for my new W11 laptop to arrive, which it finally has.)

Ran into a nasty problem recently: our sysadmins had to do a major renovation of our server and mentioned that email cache files would disappear and have to be recreated. With ~30K msgs it took a little while to read from the server, but was successful.

Except: I have color coded the headers of many messages, as a long-term to-do list. And that color coding is gone. This is a real problem for me.

Having encountered something like this in the past, I have a cron job that makes a backup of the Peg cache every day. Previously when there was a problem, I could go to
PMAIL/MAIL/ADMIN/IMC-3E9
and put a backup copy of the .PHC file there. Peg would read that, all the colors would be there, and I could pick up from there.

But now Peg insists on reading from the server, ignoring anything I put in IMC-3E9.

Help!

Any ideas about how to get Peg to read the PHC file on my machine first? (I see there are other folders like IMC -3E9, is there a way to use one of those, or a way to tell Peg I'm someone else, or ...??)

Many (ie ~30K) thanks!
Randy

Once again I have another off the wall question. Is there any way to see and/or review the password I entered during configuration. I'm currently seeing blackout dots preventing me from seeing what I entered. When I entered, I did not save for my records. If you recall I was trying get my Pegasus back and was having problems....when I was able didn't save. All mail is being received but simply wondered what I put in... like a real dummy

Pegasus Mail and Mercury Progress Updates

June 2025 - Well, THAT was interesting... sigh

Back at the start of November last year, I announced I would be putting out monthly progress updates. Then, in December, when I went to put up the second update, I found that Amazon, who handled the hosting for my pmail.com web site, had effectively locked me out - they had, for reasons that I still don't understand, removed my ability to write to the site. Since that time, I have been going through a process of moving the hosting of my web site back into my home domain - something that has proven more complicated than I expected, and which has been hampered by a number of other issues.

During that time, I have been putting up regular updates, but the only place I could do that was the Pegasus Mail Community site. Rather than rehash those updates, I have transcribed them here - you can read them using the following links:

November 2024 progress update – "The Very First Update"
December 2024 progress update – "DKIM at last"
January 2025 progress update – "Web hosting emergency"
February 2025 progress update – "Web server development, WinPMail futures"
March 2025 progress update – "Pruning the WinPMail settings tree"
April/May 2025 progress update – "April is the cruelest month"

Not having control of my website has sown chaos in most of my plans for this year: not only could I not issue progress reports, but I couldn't distribute new versions of the programs (I was locked out of that by the same problem that locked me out of the main site). In order to regain control, I have had to do what I frequently find myself having to do these days, which is to compensate for a lack of resources by spending time developing my own solution: while this isn't entirely a bad thing – it has resulted in a lot of new Mercury code that I believe a number of sites will find handy – it has the effect of pushing all my other work (and there's plenty of it) into the background for a while.

What this episode has mainly taught me is that being as under-resourced as I am leaves me close to disaster all the time. I am currently doing what I can to improve things like development hardware and network speed (important now that I'm doing my own hosting), but with limited means this is always going to be a struggle. While that possibly sounds like a thinly-veiled plea for donations, it's not – my users are already donating as much as they can, and I would not willingly ask for more from them; but if any company was willing to offer a small annual sponsorship for the programs, I would love to talk to them about that to see if there is some mutually beneficial deal we could make.

With all of this fiasco now hopefully behind me, I can finally return to the work that has been stalled by it. Expect to see new releases of both programs very soon – a consolidation release in the case of WinPMail, and a feature release with DKIM support and all the work I've done to get my hosting going again in the case of Mercury.

That's about it for now - watch out for the next progress update at the start of July.

All my best to you,

Cheers!

Some recipients of my emails see text with no extra line breaks or paragraph breaks so the message is compressed and not readable (no white space). I can only see the issue when they reply and include the original message in their reply.

The same message can go to several recipients and only some have the issue. This was never the case before. Formatting was always perfect for all recipients. I believe this started to happen early in 2025.

Here is my setup:

WinPMail version: Version 4.81.1154, Jan 10 2023, build ID 1154
Language resources: Standard UK English resources (EN,0,LL)
Extension Manager version: 1.14
Operating mode: Standalone
User name and ID: Single-user mode, 0
Windows version: 6.2

Hi all

I'm running PMail Version 4.73.639, Mar 30 2018 on a standalone Lenovo laptop running Windows 11.

A few days ago, my PMail started working really really slowly. I changed nothing on my PC, all other programs seem to be functioning normally.

What I mean by "working slowly" is that it takes 33-36 seconds (I timed it) for a simple, small, text-only email to open from my New Mail folder. If I'm in the message reader window and hit F7 to go to the attachments - it takes 33 seconds.
Ctrl+N to compose new message - 35 secs.
Deleting messages is normal speed. Moving messages to a different folder is normal speed.

I did try re-installing my current version (I had a file called w32-473.exe stored, I ran that and chose the "update" option) - didn't help. I wanted to download the latest version but I see that the pmail.com site is down.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Using v4.81.1154 On Windows 11

Probably a really stupid question, but all of my fonts in incoming emails in my inbox and folders are much smaller than on my old Windows 10 computer.

I know how to adjust the font in my outgoing mail and headers, but nothing I tried works on all of these received emails and I hate to buy even stronger bifocals!!! smile

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Using V4.81 on Windows 10

I have 3 mailboxes that I use routinely and 2 work perfectly! The third one (of course my main one) freezes up every time that I try to move or copy any email in my inbox or folders.

Once it freezes, I have to go into Task manager and close Pegasus with "End Task."

I can delete emails without a problem, send and receive emails, view, reply, etc., just not move or copy.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

PS: I'm in the process of switching to a new Windows 11 computer in a few days. Any chance that might fix it?

Hi there,
I try updating my 4.80 PMAIL to 4.81 beta. My current instalation is in D:\PMAIL directory. After updating, every time I start program there are windows opening indicating "Insufficient disk space!" and "Insufficient TEMP space". After clicking OK on both, program launches normaly. There's plenty of space both on D: and C: drives. TMP and TEMP environment variables are in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp. The same error messages are popping up no matter if it's update or new install in different directory on D drive. Interestingly, there are no such messages when installing on C: drive. Another issue is that after update it doesn't detect my old email folders and connection configuration files in PMAIL\MAIL folder. I ran the pconfig32.exe file and it says Configuration directory D:\pmail\programs and
Home mailbox root directory D:\PMAIL\MAIL~N. After I change the latter to just D:\PMAIL\MAIL it detects old mail folders and can connect to my previous GMAIL addresses. What is wrong here? I tried searching for answers here to no avail. Help is very appreciated.

Perhaps this has been discussed earlier, but I couldn't find such topic on this forum using "search" (see my post from minutes ago).

The matter is of saving attachments from a mail. It seems that the common (I always thought that it's system-wide) feature of warning, that in the given folder a file with same name exists and so it'd be overwritten if the new is saved, is not present in PM. I cannot see any help on this, neither any option as "Warn if file exists..." etc.

Sometimes consecutive versions of attachments I receive have the same filenames and so I can unconsciously lose the previous ones.

Thanks for any suggestions (or implementing this feature into PM, if it's not present in any form yet).

Before I post my primary question, I must ask about some general issue about the "search" feature on this site (just because I failed to find the topic that interested me). As I cannot find any help on this:

0) Does this work at all? (I tried to find topics with some common words, like "attachment" and I couldn't see any reports on the search result, neither the forum topics seemed to be filtered)

1) Does this search based on titles only or does it look through the post content also?

2) Does this search using by default OR or AND operators between words (ie. finds any occurrence of any of the words or only the exact phrase)?

3) Can the logical operators of any kind be used (like quotation marks, -, .NOT. etc.?

Sorry if I've overlooked something,
crayfish

Some time ago I asked whether Pegasus could be installed on a computer running the ARM processor instead of Intel (in particular, with Snapdragon in the Microsoft Profile)--no seemed to have an answer. So I am reporting that I have not had any problem using the -roaming installation I already had on a thumb drive. I have not, of course, tried all functions, but receiving (with filter) and sending seem to work o.k.

This is a strange one, at least to me. I'm using Pegasus to collect POP mail from 3 different servers, Yahoo, Gmail and Spectrum, set up in that order in "Internet Mail Options / Receiving (POP3)". The General default timeout is set at 45 seconds, and Settings for Receiving Mail is set to 15 seconds on each server definition. I have several "New mail filtering rules" set up and they seem to work properly. I also have some server side filtering rules set up that also seem to work properly.

The first time I check mail each morning I receive a "Not Responding" message in the New Mail folder while "Applying Filtering Rules" shows in the status line. Then a "POP3 Network or Protocol Error" on pop.gmail.com comes up (see attachment). After I acknowledge that error the remaining mail is collected from the other servers. I can then go back and select the "Check your POP3 host for new mail" icon and all connections work just fine. Mail is then collected from Gmail correctly. This error only happens once, the first time I retrieve mail in the morning. Throughout the day I don't get the protocol error. I don't know if this is a connection error or a filtering error but it is frustrating to deal with each day. Your help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Bob

P.S. Having trouble attaching Protocol Error image. Any suggestions?

I have 930 .pmm files with a total size of 28 gb.
Messages in the New Mail folder become invisible seemingly at random. But if I search for them with ctrl-f pmail finds them and tells me that they are in New Mail folder.

I have tried to move all the messages into a temporary folder and then moving them back into the New Mail folder. But then the missing messages cannot be found anymore at all.

Any ideas ?

Simple question from this idiot.

Where do I go to increase time on sending documents? When sending my time always seems to run out on me w/o completion

As usual thanks in advance

Can somebody tell me where the Global Whitelist is located within Pegasus Mail, please?

I am aware I can see it by going to Tools/ Spam and content controls/Global whitelist, but I would like to be able to create a shortcut for it on my desk top, like I have done for the Black list at C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN\black.pml.

Thanks for any help,

Chris
