Just went to check page, and got notice its security certificate has expired.

Wonder if anyone knows more about this? In my tests with outlook web site, it gave info on this, so I installed on phone.

Sometimes when I open outlook via browser, it has popped up with a message that it sent a code to my gmail, and have to check the code and enter it to get connected. Other times the authenticator beeps on phone, but web pages just opens with no code required.

Don't know if their might be a way to setup Pegasus with the authenticator? App doesn't show much info in its help?

I recently installed v4.8 DE ( Full international versions of Pegasus Mail
Completely translated versions, including the setup program from ) on a Win 11 host, since then AVIRA thinks winpm-32.exe is dangerous and puts in it to quarantine.

Thus to use PMAIL I have either to deactivate AVIRA Security program or to reinstall PMAIL every time I wish to use it.

Furthermore, I am quite sure I was able to start winpm-32.exe using a link an providing command line parameters (to use german language interface and become a certain user via -U switch immediately on startup). I already tried creating a winpm-32.bat file containing

winpm-32.exe -U <username> -X DE

but failed.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

I just received an email from MS stating that I will no longer be able to retrieve my email after 09/16/24 due their discontinuance of "Basic Authentication". I have also read that there is little chance (due to complexity) of Pegasus Mail for Windows ever incorporating "Modern Authentication" for Microsoft. I have also read the author's take on it and respect his opinion.

BUT... now I'm in trouble. I have used Pegasus Mail for around 20 years. I utilize it for my filing tray, keeping records of both personal and financial exchanges. It is my "GoTo" when a question regarding the past arises. I DON'T want to abandon PM but I don't see how I can stay with it.

I notice that PM v4.81 with OAUTH2 for Google was never moved from Beta. I don't care for GMail and their "labels" anyway... I like "folders".

First, my heartfelt thanks to David for providing such a fantastic email client for so many years.

Second, I am in need of options at this point. I have PM folders containing 20 years of info that I'd like to keep. I ALSO wish to continue to RETRIEVE my mail and store it locally as opposed to keeping it on a cloud. Internet providers have all but abandoned email services... at least in my location.

All thought would be appreciated.

I have noticed on Task Manager on the PC that sends the faulty email "Unknown "From" and "None" Subject that there were TWO winpm-32 processes running with different PID's.

Closing Pegasus only resulted in ONE of the processes shutting down... was forced to kill the other.... maybe this is involved somehow. The server is the PC that receives the problem emails.

I have two email addresses and therefore two identities in Pegasus mail. Those two email addresses are also used in Gmail and for years I have been happily downloading from Gmail into Pegasus to deal with the mail and file it there.

But when I changed my email password on Gmail, it all stopped working. So I downloaded the new version 4.81 of Pegasus and found the handy Gmail button. This worked beautifully on one of my identities, I can download, send mail etc no problem. But the other one just does not work. This second identity appears to be missing the [Pegasus Mail for Windows - built in TCP/IP Mail] at the beginning of the PMAIL settings file for the specific identity.

The whole process wasn't helped by the fact that I seemed to have two copies of PMAIL, one in the C:/PMAIL directory (and this now holds the latest version of Pegasus), and one in the C:/PMAIL/Programs directory (which seems to have last been updated in 201.

So I would like to delete the old version of Pegasus in the Programs directory but I am nervous of losing settings. But also should I reinstall Pegasus as multi-user somehow?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

We have been using Pegasus for many years, and have always experienced the following problem. We are currently on 4.81.

We very often sort emails in a folder by date order (to see the most recent at the top). However emails are not sorted correctly. They often appear sorted correctly in chunks, but with multiple chunks so the most recent emails can be a long way down the list. We have large folders with thousands of emails in them, so when they aren't sorted correctly emails are hard to find.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so do they know a fix or workaround?

We have tried Reindex and Recover Deleted Space but this doesn't correct this.

@idw: I want to keep my users' IER file cache location on their local drive. I expect performance to be better with the cache on the local drive rather than the network.

Is there a way to prevent prompting each user about moving their file cache (since most won't understand what it is) and keeping it as it is?

Creating a new mail with To:, Subject:, and simple text in the body, add an attachment like blabla.pdf (with or without choosing File Type: Adobe or Mailer decides) and sending this one results in an

"354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>"

and a message with "mail delivery failure". The mail remainsl in the queued folder.
Tried different filenames like "bla bla.pdf", "bla_bla.pdf" and "bla_bla.pdf" - same behavior.
Size of "blabla.pdf" is ~ 2MB.

Tried different pdf-files with different sizes as attachment - same behavior. Seems to be a problem with the .pdf-filetype and not with the files.

Attachment for example like "bla.txt" works fine...

"Filetype.pm" is untouched - no Adobe or pdf-entry is in there...

Those of you following the thread about the previous release already know: There's another update released apparently fixing the crash occuring on some systems when shutting down Pegasus Mail. Please see below for the link to IER's history page providing the download URL.

• This time there are three major changes in this version:

  1. I've implemented a relocation of the default IER file cache location (if not having been customized previously) which will be applied automatically if confirmed on first launch after updating: The cache directory will now be a subdirectory of the respective Pegasus Mail user's new mail directory for ensuring that it will stay the same location when using Pegasus Mail on portable devices or networks. Please note that copying existing cached files to the new location may slow down the first Pegasus Mail launch after updating IER once for each Pegasus Mail user!

  2. Next one is an extended menu option for changing Pegasus Mail's HTML renderer: It now offers additionally the option to use Pegasus Mail's internal RichText module as HTML renderer which may be helpful for a couple of Windows XP and Linux users: While BearHtml will be enabled by default if detecting MSHTML modules of IE versions below v8 they may now easily switch to the built-in renderer if regarding it to serve their requirements better. It should be capable of restoring itself even after updates trying to restore renamed files for applying these changes. Please note that switching to and from the built-in renderer will require a restart of Pegasus Mail which will be offered as an immediate option after selecting the respective switch.

  3. Another important change is the migration of image processing from using the system's GDI+ interface to the favour of the open source FreeImage library (already coming with Pegasus Mail) which might speed up HTML rendering a little bit if loading embedded images.

• This version also brings a slightly modified handling for the BearHtml related crash of the previous version for taking care of yet unknown reasons to cover.

• Additionally it includes slightly modified help files for better readability and some adjustments with regard to required Windows versions and also fixes and removes some outdated URLs.

• Then it fixes a workaround dealing with improper use of HTML 5 elements in supposedly IE 11 compatible messages which accidentally would hide images.

• It as well fixes a charset issue affecting HTML text imported into Pegasus Mail's editor from external HTML files if containing non-ASCII characters in UTF-8 and local ANSI encoding.

• And it finally works around an issue caused by invalid size formatting of embedded emoticons in notifications from Pegasus Mail's support forum.

Upcoming IERenderer image cache changes

Hi All,

A new version of IERenderer will soon be released. That version will include a change to the default location of the image file cache directory. This change is significant enough to warrant a pre-release advisory to provide you with an opportunity to give it some consideration instead of being surprised by it during the next upgrade. Michael in der Wiesche gracefully accepted my offer to create and post the advisory, this advisory.

As you may know, the current default location for the IERenderer image file cache directory is in [WinDrive]:\Users[WinUser]\AppData\Roaming (= %APPDAT%) with a fallback location of [WinDrive]:\Users[WinUser]\AppData\Local\Temp (= %TEMP%). The following concerns have been expressed about these locations:

1. When running a portable instance of Pegasus Mail, any cached image files are left on the host machine.
2. In a multi-user shared installation (network installation) where users run Pegasus Mail from any PC on the LAN, their cached image files do not follow them from PC to PC.
3. Cached image files do not travel with the mail data when copying a mailbox directory to a new installation of Pegasus Mail.

Michael is addressing these concerns by changing the default location of the IER image file cache. The new location will be a subdirectory of the new mailbox directory. The next upgrade will detect whether your image file cache is in one of the two default locations, and if it is, it will offer to relocate it to your new mailbox directory. If you agree, the new image file cache directory will be created in your new mail directory and all cached image files will be moved to it. This may take some time. If you don't agree, the image file cache will remain where it is.

You will still be able to control the location of the image file cache directory from within the IER configuration dialog.

This is not the only change contained in the new release. Watch for its release announcement or, once it is released, visit its version history page at

My PMail has recently started hanging up when I go to New Mail. It gets hung up on Mail Filtering.

Any suggestions?

Running v4.81.1154, the outgoing "queued mail" folder has what appears to be a blank message with no address. If it is deleted, it reappears shortly after. When sent it generates an error to the effect of "has no address". How to get rid of this persistent rogue message?

Some emails I receive has the received time in the header 00:00:00 with notoffset to my timezone: -06.00.00. Are these sorted chronologically?

Emails are being received but double clicking on the email or single click and Open does not open the email and after a short while closes Pegasus. Version 4.80 reinstalled but does the same thing. This has been working and now stopped. Any ideas please.
