1.  Use Help | About Pegasus Mail | Info and note the HOME mail
    directory.  Exit WinPMail.

2.    Go to the HOME mail directory and edit the state.pmj file.

3.  Locate the [Reader] section of the file and delete the
    Attmt line.  You might just want to edit it, here's a good
    one.

[READER]
Digests=155,206,731,309,"216,268,128,0"
Body=0,0,798,486,"156 100 0"
Attmt=0,0,0,0,"138 0"
Ann=0,0,0,0,"0"

Slide the mouse pointer toward the top of the "blank attachment page" and when it becomes cruciform, depress the left mouse button and drag the invisible separator downwards.

You might want to get a copy of SG TCP Optimizer that I find quite handy.  http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php  This little utility will allow you to test your MTU for maximum size without fragmentation against specific servers.  If will also make it easy to adjust the MTU.
I ran it and it recommended I set my MTU to 1500, which I did. Apparently, it was not set (the box was blank when "Current Settings" was selected. I'll use Pmail some more and see if there is a change in behavior.

And finally, does this computer, by chance, happen to have an NVidia NForce 4 chipset on the motherboard?  If so, many other have had this exact problem, and it turned out to be an optimization setting for the built in NIC which caused the problems with packet fragmentation. Disabling the advanced optimization capability called "checksum offload" made all the problems of sending SMTP mail via WinPMail disappear.
I have an NVidia NForce 2.

 Thank you so very much for your reply. It's given me a new avenue of actions to try.

I orginally posted this in the mercury forum, so I appologise for the double post.

I am a consultant and have been supporting a company that uses mercury32 and pmail32 with NDS support for years.  I have just recently come across a weird issue where the New Mail folder doesnt refresh until the user changes folders then returns back to New Mail or closes and restarts Pmail32.  I've checked the users pmail config, checking refresh times, etc.  I am not using IMAP, and I have other users in the office running fine.  Not sure what changed.
How many message are in the new mail foldfer?  If there are too many (700?) then the auto-refresh is shut down.
I currently only have 22 in mine, and have the exact same problem. It also seems to apply to any folder, not just the New Mail folder, ie. I have to go to another folder and return to see the updated list.

I have a question to add to this discussion: is there a Refresh view shortcut key, eg. some apps use F5, does PMail have anything similar?

Jose, try Select instead of Find.

For simple cases like selecting all messages by a certain sender use Quick select. First manually select one message from this sender, then invoke Messages | Quick select | Perform quick selection.

For more complex cases use 'Select' toolbar button or the Messages | Select... menu item. This opens the 'Select messages...' dialog, where you can specify a number of criteria to be checked.

Cheers,
Erik

Many Thanks Thomas -  thats a very comprehensive reply - I must admit that it sounds a bit complicated but I will persevere..

 I feel that more questions may arise.....

Thanks again.

I am not getting the error initializing printer part, but I am getting Error Creating Font / CreateOneFont errors now out of the blue.

I can print fine at anytime during these messages so my printer is online.  I have tried removing it, switching printing to PDFCreator and even wiped out my Pegasus install and reinstalled everything including the latest BearHTML and virscan.

I have been using this since Windows 3.11 days :), other than a few glitches here and there (mostly with uncommonly formatted HTML and hyperlinks) this program has been spot on.  I have no desire to change even if all updates cease.

If anyone has a clue, I'd appreciate it.

Martin, thanks for the explanation. I checked SURBL and it turns out they had already blacklisted the URL.

I seem to vaguely remember getting a "no entry" mouse pointer when pointing at a blacklisted URL, which did not happen this time. Today I tried clicking it. I got a dialog box warning me about phishing, so everything works just fine. So my memory is probably not just vague, but plain wrong. (I realize that checking every URL up front would lead to a lot of network traffic.)

Not without rewriting the extension and that's something you'll have to do yourself.

it you know how to write and extension, and I do not, this may be possible.  The real point is that there is another application available to do this and, Mercury/32.  It's easy, fast and quick to run Mercury/32 and forget about using an outdated and no longer supported Pegasus Mail extension.

The switch between users is going away, caused to many support problems and there is of course the mail security problem. You can already run as many instances of Pegasus Mail as you want if allowed by the postmaster so this should be no problem.

You got it.  Dump MultiPOP and go to Mercury/32.  ;-)

I have always assumed that the address in Tools/Internet Options/General was to enable Pegasus to download the correct mail from my ISP as well as putting the "From" address on the message.

Hey Presto!  I have taken your advice and my emails now appear as I wanted.  Shows the value of this forum!!

 Many thanks indeed.

Hi Thomas

That was brilliant, I followed your advice and the second identity now works. Thanks for the quick reply. I have one remaining problem: this has come about because I have had to back-up PMail onto DVD's before getting rid of Windows 2000 and installing XP. So now I have a new installation of Pegasus on XP and the old Pegasus files and info on four back-up DVD's. However I would like to either open certain of the old files i.e. folders, addresses and the emails that were  in place before the back-up or transfer them back onto the new Pegasus installation running under XP. The Pegasus folders and files seem to be duplicated on  all four back-up DVD's and include folders called Defaults, Mail, Resource and about 117 other files. So I would be very pleased if you could advise me how to access this information or indeed transfer it back onto the new Pegasus.

Thank you

Marcel

Restore these files and folders to a directory on your local hard drive called "ARCHIVE" and then point at it using "Add mailbox to list".

1.  Open the folder listing.  Go to the menu "Folders" next to "Tools".

2.  Use  "Add mailbox to list", enter C:\Archive as the path, Archive as
    the name.

Thanks for the suggestions Thomas. I'm afraid I don't understand most of them, but I'll have my husband look at them and see if we can make this work.

you can use python or perl with their libraries to write a 'thin interface' that would show you sender, date and subject only. I could see programming a server somewhere to look at your imap email box and produce a list, the question is whether there is a link protocol within pegasus to fetch the important email.

I too was able to use the key combination described above successfully in single pane view.

I'm looking for a way to adjust the default column size for the window that opens when processing a FIND.  The default colums are too thin and I always have to adjust in order to review the results.  In addition all the columns seem to only allow me to adjust them maybe 1/4" or 1/2" at a time.  I have to repeatedly click on the column divider and pull it wider.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

Fixed it (hooray!)

The problem was that although I had created the new synonyms file with the changed address, and had copied it to the root of the PMAIL folder containing the mailboxes, I had not copied it to the default ..\Mercury\Mercury folder. Also, I had to stop and restart Mercury before the synonyms file was read properly. So it all works fine now.

Thanks, Thomas for your patience and help [Y]
