Two things to check.

1.  Make sure there is not a max message size set.  The setting is in the Download controls tab of the POP3 host configuration.

My setting is "0", which I presume means that there is no max size.  (The meaning of "0" is not covered in "Help".)

2.  Check the timeout settings.  There is one in the General tab of the Internet Mail options and one in the General tab of the POP3 host configuration.  The host configuration takes precedence but if it is set to zero the other one is used as the default.  More info in the help file.  I set mine at 120.

Aren't those two actually the SAME setting?  If I change one, the other is automatically changed as well.  I changed mine to 120, but I doubt that that is the problem.

I analyzed the session log clips I posted previously a little more.  I noticed something that I did not address last time, and there's the possibility that it points to Pegasus Mail as the culprit.

On the SUCCESSFUL downloads, Pegasus waited 0.266 secs, 0.281 secs, 0.282 secs, and 0.359 secs for the ISP server response.

On the UNSUCCESSFUL downloads, it appears that Pegasus waited 0.000 secs for all four responses--that is, it didn't wait at all!

I don't know why Pegasus would behave this way for downloads greater than some (arbitrary??) size.

I don't know of any setting anywhere in Pegasus for indicating the minimum length of time that Pegasus must wait for a server response.  (For example, in my case, it might be useful to specify that Pegasus must wait at least 0.5 sec (or 1 sec, or perhaps even more) for a response from the ISP server before it gives up (as it seems to do now on an instant basis).  Does such a setting already exist?  If so, where is it located, so that I can change it?

Thanks to all who can provide further help or information!

I resolved this using a "Review Queued Mail" under 'File'.  I was unaware of this option, but when I used it, it sent me to the files that were being sent out over and over and over again.  From that list, I deleted the 3 emails, and problem is solved.  I found the answer in a post from 2007 about stuck queued mail. AFAIK, there is no a way to recover a deleted draft from within Pegasus Mail.

A draft is stored as a .PMO file in the mailbox directory.  There will be a corresponding .PNX file if the draft contained formatted content.  I suppose you could recover these files using an undelete utility if needed.

The largest folder in My Bookmarks is 275 Mb. What do I need to do to store that folder off-line in case I should need it at a later date?

Best regards, eug4not

The file size of 2 GB is operation system limit. NEVER let a folder grow to this size! So you have to split your yearly folder in i.e. two folders.

For repairing you have first to move mails out of this folder and then compress it. Pegasus can't repair a folder ticking to the limit.

This is a known issue with filesize and the mailstore (folders) can not be greater than 2gb (32 bit pointers iirc). Best to split/archive folders when greater than 1.5-1.7 gb in size. Search forum for more details, has been discussed before.

Yes, but because of your reminder, I went back and triple checked, and found my problems.

For POP3, I had forgotten to enable SSL.  For SMTP, I had the wrong port.   My hosting service doesn't use the standard ports.

Thanks for sending me back to the basics!  That's usually where most problems occur, isn't it?

Assuming you can obtain the IP addresses of locations you want to communicate with, it is quite straight forward.

Firstly locate a file called HOSTS on your PC, on my machine it is C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS

Then for each location make an entry in the HOSTS file.  This becomes your local DNS server which will perform the translation from Internet service name to its IP address.

One caveat to be aware of, some sites rotate through sets of IP addresses through what is called DNS switching, for performance/bottleneck

resolutions.  So it would be best to treat this solution as only temporary.

There is a site used actually to solve spam and other unwanted sites, which points bad server names to 127.0.0.1 which is a dummy location and will then route messages to these unwanted locations to garbage and not transmit them. Using this file you can set up a local DNS service. Excerpt from beginning of their list of bad sites:

# This MVPS HOSTS file is a free download from:            #

# http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm                    #

#                                                          #

# Notes: The Operating System does not read the "#" symbol #

# You can create your own notes, after the # symbol        #

# This *must* be the first line: 127.0.0.1     localhost   #

hello,

I am just wondering why the latest version of pegasus mail is not listed in the "Downloads" - section  (link at the top)?

I always have to google and then finally find the most updated webpage that gives all the latest officially released builds here: http://www.pmail.com/downloads_s3_t.htm

why is that?

In my case I select and try to open about 10-20 mails at the same time. My folders are usually IMAP. Might be that some internal background processes like mailbox polling or perhaps changing the window focus are influencing this.

As I said the issue happens seemingly intermittently with about 50-50 chance for myself. Cannot figure out the pattern.

Hi all

I am using Pegasus for Windows  v. 4.7 and Windows 8.

When I use a standard Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V  with a normal message, it does not work at all. I can not paste the text in another new mail or even any other windows application (Word, etc). I have to change to RAW view in the message and then copy/paste. It works, then; however, it is useless as it incorporates several symbols.

This Ctr-C/Ctr-V used to work allways in Pegasus (I have used this mail program for several years), of course, but I do not know which is the problem that is really fastidius.

Anyone has had similar problems, or it comes from my own PC.

Thanks to anyone that can help me

Jesus

Hello!

You would be better off by restricting users ability to initiate SMTP and POP3/IMAP protocols outside the company internal network. Leave the ports associated with email traffic open in firewall towards internet for your corporate mail server only.

Note that it still leaves open the possibility to create in Pmail another identity (of a coworker for example) and send emails via coproprate mail server by pretending to be somebody else. So You should also look how to close down this possibility in your corporate smtp server as well.

First of all, make sure the default Text printer is set as the Windows default printer. Then for any other application select the printer of choice and save the selection in the application.  But...... if the printer is not set on, any other application will have a problem that causes the printer selection dialog to pop up. Pretty much the same hassle. Pegasus Mail needs to check the printer metrics and font capabilities in order to display/print anything on a screen or printer.

Better to check the printer is on and network connected when you boot your PC.  Just use Notepad to print a sample page on the network printer.

Sorry for posting here,

I really don't know what section would be more appropriate.

Just wanted to post about how incredibly strong is Pmail Spam filter! It took just a little time to train it, but now it's just rock solid!

Thanks David for the great job.
1. For the immediate future how do I delete this email?
Open its message properties (right mouse click on the message in its folder or F12 while selected) and check whether it's flagged as "read-only" (and if it is: I have no idea why ...).
2. Why is it apparently acceptable that there are emails that can be sent but cannot be opened in our program?
The error message you're trying to quote usually also says that you can open such a message on the attachments tab of the reader. Most probably it doesn't have any kind of readable text body but just an attachment which cannot be displayed in the reader window/pane.

Thanks for the feedback on NotSplit. I will arrange for an update to be put on Community shortly to deal with "self".
