I also would like the option of saving drafts to the IMAP mail server. If I draft an email with my laptop on the road, I would like to finish it on my home office computer. I just finished a work-around. I set up a mail box on the server named "Drafts". I email my draft to my "Drafts" email address. When I get home, I open my draft on my office computer, complete the email and forward to my client, stripping the "forwarding info lines".

P.S. I have my own identity and a "Drafts" identity. So when I forward the completed email, I use my own identity.

Hi Everybody,

Just a note on installing to a mapped drive under Windows 8.1:

We have used Pmail for several years and find it ideal as you can store all the mail and program itself on a server, which makes backups and management a doddle.

We use all our computers with explicit drive mappings, resolving to a letter, for example:

S: is \\192.168.x.xx\Folder Name.

This is to maintain compatibility with old programs that do not play well with explicit names.

When installing the 4.70 update it does not read the existing drive mappings when you browse for the program folder, you have to use the Network Browse which will find the server by its name:

\\Name of Server\Folder Name

The install then proceeds OK. After the install all the existing shortcuts on other computers work fine, there is no need to do install anything on the other workstations.

If you store the Windows Credentials, then Windows will store both instances of the server, by IP address and Name.

This assumes that you are upgrading an existing installation that already has the mail to and send defaults set to Pegasus Mail. If not then these can be set with the wsendto found in the program folder, or, if a new installation then run wssetup from the program folder.

Hope this helps others.

Michael & Brian - your suggestions seem to have worked - thank you!!!!

When I clicked on Windows and then Cascade, the Folders box and the Address & Distribution box both appeared, but the addresses in the address box were all missing when I clicked on the addressbooks tab.  However, when I clicked on the "Distribution List" side of the box, and then clicked on the far right "addresses" that has a green horizontal arrow, a separate address box would pop up which had all my listings.   I took a couple of pics, and as uploading to photobucket, I closed out of Pegasus and reopened the Pegasus mail folder.............and all my addresses were where they were suppose to be.

I've trusted and been a believer in Pegasus mail for over a decade, never having a major problem until this past weekend.  It's a reminder that I need to keep copies or do a better job of backing things up.

Again, thanks for taking the time to review and help me with this.

Ron

The link below points to a document assisting in the setup of the new Spell Checker in Pegasus Mail version 4.7, for those people who need dictionaries in languages other than those supplied in the Pegasus Mail 4.7 distribution set.  Also describes how to use the Firefox or OpenOffice, or LibreOffice spell checking dictionaries, to save duplication of files, as Pegasus Mail now uses the same Hunspell spell checking dictionaries as these products.
PMIcal.exe is a standalone program which is aware of Pegasus Mail through using the Windows Registry for directory locations.  It can be closed at any time without affecting anything else.
Understood, and it was closed on the workstation.  Apparently Windows caching held it open on the server as it did with the .dll files.

Hi Martin,

I'm away from home base this week so I can't do much right now.

Since changing renderer I've not had one crash. Using Bear trying to open almost every message would result in the crash. As would trying to resize the main folder.

When I get back, I can swap back to Bear and see if these problems reoccur. If so, I'll send you the relevant log file.

I'm happy to spend some time on this so as a "cure" can be found.
I don't have an answer for you, but for what its worth my stock standard installation is significantly slower with this version when checking/downloading.
Yes. My feeling is also that the new version of Pegasus is slower in fetching and sending mails than the previous version. (I use Windows 7 64-bit.)

Update: POP3 definitely worked better in the old version! At the moment it wouldn't fetch new mail although I know that there are 2 new mails.

2. update: I use free Avast antivirus and free Zonealarm firewall.

3. update...: It very much feels like if SMTP has also gotten quite slower.
Any program files or UAC protected location will not work with Pegasus Mail on Vista or later....

Doing things the way Microsoft does or wants will not work with winpm-32 unless UAC is turned off which is a bad idea.
On the contrary, as a matter of observable fact, an installation in Program Files has been working perfectly for me on three machines for several years, and this is with UAC turned on.  I make no claim it would be so smooth if I were running PMail in multi-user mode, but that has long since ceased to be of interest to anyone here.

Anyway, I have now found the answer to my own question. The self-extractor fails to execute the installer because I have prevention installed against the Cryptolocker ransomware, the nastiest malware I have seen since such things first arose in the late 1980s.

Such prevention against Cryptolocker typically takes the form of a Group or Local Security Policy that prevents executables being invoked anywhere in the %appdata% and %localappdata% hierarchies. As that is the location the self-extractor chooses (for example, C:\Users\< name of current user>\AppData\Local\Temp\WZSE0.TMP), the self-extractor can unpack its files but cannot execute setup32.exe.

Those of you who frequent this place might care to note this for future reference, as I am not the only person, I hope, who has proper defences against Cryptolocker installed and others may report the same issue.

Rename extension on that file you downloaded to *.zip and then open in win explorer. Extract the dictionary and .aff file to c:\pmail\programs\dicts location making sure dictionary has .dic extension and the other .aff

Then construct a .v5dict file using another one as sample. The name must be correct and same as what is within the .aff file.  The only actual sample I have here was done by another user and he installed a Brazilian Portuguese dictionary.

I am hoping somebody from test team will construct an FAQ on how to download, configure and place dictionaries.

I believe that is the issue that I needed to change a setting on.

I think that has resolved this problem.

Thank you very much for your help.

I will post back if other issues about this occure.

Thank you all for your replies.

Here's an update. (I am so confused now.)

1_ Pegasus Mail 4.63 is working OK.
2_ Update to pmail 4.70.
3_ Unable to send emails using pmail through my hotmail account. I confirm the settings are not touched by the update procedure. Repeated tests fail.
4_ I am able to access hotmail through web interface and send emails using it.
5_ Back to pmail 4.63.
6_ I am able to send emails using pmail again. Still using the same settings as the initial state.
7_ I start this topic in the Pegasus Mail community forum.
8_ Update again to pmail 4.70.
9_ Before I start playing with the settings, I perform a new test. I can successfully send emails! Still, same settings as the initial state.

I have no clear explanation. I wonder if perhaps I accidentally changed something at some point without even noticing.

I will keep using pmail 4.70, unless something “breaks” again. If the problem arises again, I am certainly going to post new questions here.

I am not sure I would/should say this is really solved.

I am certainly intrigued. If anyone has some idea about what is going on (or what happened), I will be glad to hear it.

In any case, I am thankful for your replies (and for Pegasus Mail).

Thank you,
Ady.

Wow, this is good news, especially the fact that the need for using the somewhat laborious workaround of stunnel has been removed. I have recently switched to Linux Mint because of the impending end of Windows XP support and started using Thunderbird, but I'll certainly give Pegasus and Wine another try then. Thanks for the update!

Last night, while researching IE11 print problems some more, the most similar problem to mine was someone with a Brother printer who could print OK from everything but IE11, but got a mix of good and bad with IE11.

Most of the IE11 print problems see to be all or nothing, not a mix of good and bad, and my printer is a Brother.

One of the reasons I've been trying to print less is that besides having to eventually throw away the printouts, when my toner runs out I need to decide whether to buy another cartridge or buy a new printer. The less I print, the more I prolong this decision (pro-active procrastination).

Whether IE11 by itself can print is of no importance to me, but since that is what IERenderer uses, it does matter, as that is only time IE11 is used for printing.

I've already wasted more paper testing all this than I'd likely be printing this year. So, for now, if I need to print a message, I'll either view it in Firefox, or save it as text, and use my text editor to print it. And maybe when the time comes, I'll buy a more modern non-Brother printer.
