Re Portable. We now now how to move winpmail to a usb drive and operate it there and to move to other drives too.  I move it from my desktop computer to my laptop when I am on the road and back to the desktop when I get home. Thanks to those who helped us figure it out..  It loads and searches much faster on a ssd drive.

 Re Archive.

I keep backups of winpmail dated and delete old stuff and back up that version dated also then I can run the old version if I need to recover old emails from 1998.  Hope a better solution in V5.  It might be nice to have an archive folder that could be called in when needed but normally not loading the system.

Spamhalter does move junk mail into the junk mail folder automatically...

Or are you saying that your installation is broken in some way? Another Windows 7 issue? Poor David Harris. What a headache he must have right now.

Thanks for your reply. I just use the goto label command in some of my rule sets. In this case, it will not work. I want to invoke the new mail filering rule set (when new mail folder is closed) from another and after processing this, the remaining messages should be moved to the Main Folder. The rule set is to be invoked by a "quick action" (Strg+2).

As a workaround, I added a "move to main folder" at the end of the new mail filtering rule set and used this filtering rule directly for the "quick action". But that's not best ;-). The filtering rule is processed before the new autofiltering, and so autofiltering (which I do not neet at the moment) does not work correctly.

Best regards

Martin

I tend to use an application called AutoIt v3 for this type of 'helper'. Makes my old day job managable to say the least.
Aderoy,
Yes, I had a brief look at AutoIt some time ago and I think it is very powerful tool. However, the PM Macro Recorder, the way I envisage it, would be well integrated into PM and also address less advanced users who may shy away from something like AutoIt.
Thanks
Thomas

Hi all !

Here is a new poll concerning the looks of Pegasus Mail. I think this question is important because it could have a direct positive impact by increasing the user base. So here, it is :

[Poll]

This time, I will take sides. I thus strongly support a skinable interface because it will attract new users and involve all of them more directly. I do not know if it is complicated to code, so maybe our expert coders can say something about that. I hope there will be lots of participants, so that the info can maybe find its way to David.

Cheers !

Whiskyfizz.

Edit (20090904) : Hi ! The purpose of this edit is to put back on the front this thread and especially this thread. Why ? Because I really think skinning capabilities could overcome one of the major drawbacks of Pegasus Mail, its looks mainly towards the new users. It was the reason I gave it up in the first place. On top of that, I would be nice that more people participate than only 10 of the 5117 members. Cheers all !

I dunno about those folders being buttons. Kinda inconsistent with most UIs.

BUT - I do like the idea of streamlining and modernizing the interface. The current interface still looks like a Windows 95 app, and so much has happened in UIs since then.

One application that really has my interest form a UI perspective is Windows Live Photo Gallery. Yeah, it's just for pictures, but the hierarchal tags really works well, and now I'm wishing such a tag system were available for all kinds of stuff.

Not the flat tags from Gmail, mind you - those become totally unmanageable when you have too many tags. I still like to group the tags in a hierarchy so I can hide groups of them that I'm not using at the moment.

In fact, it seems Pmail already has a type of support for a type of tag, with the link folders. But that should probably be expanded to act more like tags from other programs. The link folders are a very good start for email organization.

Very nice image, good start.

Another wish list item for Pegasus Mail: Indexed search. Computers have plenty of storage for indexes now, and they're rapidly becoming the norm. That, plus put a search box somewhere in the main UI instead of hiding it underneath menus.

Hi !

Well, I suggested in one of my earlier post to integrate the change user function as an option with some warning message concerning the lack of support if the user enables it. As for making it as a switch, it is nonetheless a first step forward (if it is accepted). If that's the case, then one can always make a button for it and offer it as an extension. Maybe it is not that difficult to do. What do you think ?

Cheers !

Hi All !

I was just downloading the last version of Firefox and I saw that they were counting the number of downloads. It seems a good idea and could even become a source of encouragement for David who knows if it were adopted here for both his products. As usual, I hope this suggestion will be taken into consideration.

Cheers !
Seeing that I am regularly invited to leave
You have never stopped to wonder why, have you?
I guess with all that it would not be reasonable for me to stay.
Are you merely threatening to stay away or is this a solemn and legally binding (spot the sarcasm) promise that you will not renege on? If you care to do (a large number of) us a favour, which I doubt, please go for the latter. And if you're going to get involved at the Thunderbird forum, I sincerely hope that you will present your suggestions in a somewhat friendlier, more respectful and less uncouth manner. It's not your suggestions that are annoying, it's the way you present them. I've seen you manage, step by step, to aggravate even the most patient of posters, beta team members and community members alike. Although quite an achievement in itself, it is hardly one I'd be proud of.

A button to save all attachments at once (saves the hassle of selecting all of them) to a folder (still requires folder selection window) AND then open that folder (saves lots of clicking through explorer) might be quite useful - it could even replace the Save+Edit button as far as I'm concerned. For many files - e.g., a bunch of pictures someone sends me - it's not editing I want, just viewing. Or renaming them after saving, or something else that I'd rather do from an explorer window than from inside the associated programme.

Donors have to work (some very hard) for their $10, $50, $100 or whatever sum they give and I think its more than fair to give credit to their contributions in an appropriate way!

I would like to donate... but I am struggling to make ends meet as it is... not sure how long my job will last and the mounting bills... at present I am just keeping my head above the rising water line... (and I live in the same City as David... hope he lives up on the hill ;) )

With the recession starting to bit the smaller companies and one man bands (as in David) will feel the pinch first.

I do believe you do and are suppose to get an email saying thank-you. I did last time I donated (which admittily was a while back) so it could easily be a technical fault and array of any number of reasons why you haven't recieved one yet. Right down to although you have have sent, David hasn't recieved... and if it is pay pal that would not supprise me one bit

I would like to see each item under options with a code that I could use in the disable extension.  For example, I would like the signature options to be available to the users but not the the advanced settings or the  default mailbox.  I am using pmail but not mercury.  So I don't want the users changing anything that affects the way they receive mail or send mail.

Also, it would be nice if the signature drop down that you could select say the local sig1 or the internet1 and when you selected it then it put it at the bottom of the email so the user could see it before they sent the email.  I have users who forget to change their signatures when they have moved and get a new phone number or location.   they do not realize that it is wrong on their internet signature.

I am still using 4.02a so these things may be available in the new ver. I'm not sure.

I have been waiting on the 5.0 ver but I guess I need to go ahead and move to the 4.41.

Thanks for listening,

Sher

Hi all !

I see David has been recently struck by a bolt of blues about his work and the community but I hope he will find the inner strenght to get up, stand up on his feets and keep going forward. That said, I am taking this thread out from the forgotten depths of this forum in order to ask David if he has implemented my suggestion in the next version of the flying horse. Three years back, he found that was a good idea with a weak degree of coding difficulty. Is it still the same ? Has this suggestion been left aside ? If so, is it permanently aside or not ?

I hope David will take some time to answer to this post.

Keep up the good work !

That's all folks !

Another suggestion:  just use Sleep(n)  to do something at intervals

I have added this little routine into Virscan 4.9.8 which will be available shortly. It will convert any %nn sequence less than %7F on subject lines with the intended character when a message is sent from Pegasus Mail. Characters will include  any blank, %, <, >, =, |,/,\ etc encoded with the %nn, but *not* the =xx sequence which indicates a Quoted-Printable byte

One of my IMAP connections has a tendency to die, especially after my computer has been asleep. It'd be handy to be able to just right-click the IMAP root in the Folders window and select 'reconnect' there, instead of having to right-click, disconnect, open the IMAP folders window, doubeclick it, and close the IMAP folders window.

I'm quite aware of how to make an IMAP box open automatically, thanks. I said in my post that I do not WANT to have it open automatically. What I would LIKE is for the toolbar to include some kind of one-click button to check an IMAP box (rather than click, click, click through the IMAP profiles dialog).

As stated previously, using IMAP like that feels like you're using an extension rather than an integrated part of the program, that's all. This is a very simple and basic wishlist suggestion, not a request for support.

Cheers.  :)

I'm fairly sure this is not a new thing with 4.51. I'm almost certain it's the reason I don't use Pegasus 4.41 maximised in Preview mode - there are a bunch of issues related to it. Only recently would Peg even remember that you left it maximised, I think.

It wasn't designed to be used like this. The program is, at heart, an MDI, and clearly isn't quite fixed in some ways yet. Who knows? Perhaps these kinds of things are easier to fix now that David's no longer using Borland to develop.
