Pegasus 4.7 and Windows 10
do all the files I will be copying go into the one MAIL/ADMIN folder?
Yes, assuming a default installation.  If unsure, look at the Home mailbox directory path displayed when clicking the "Info" button in Help > About Pegasus Mail...
Does Win10 warn me about overwriting a file like WinXP does?
Yes.  The notification is different requiring approval to "Copy and Replace" in order to do an overwrite.

I know this seems daunting but it is actually much easier than you think.  I suggest working in small steps, testing and backing up between each one.  That way if something goes sideways you can restore the previous \Admin backup and continue on.  By small steps I mean steps like copy the addressbook and dlist files over then test to see if they are visible and functioning.  Then tackle the folder files (.PMM/.PMI) and test to confirm there and functioning.  Remember to have Pegasus Mail closed whenever doing any copying.

I have just got a PC running Win10. I have installed Pegasus Mail 4.7, but it seems to be incompatible with Win10. Has anyone else found this? Is there a work-around?

See this thread ...

What makes you think it doesn't work properly?

Hi Michael

When I run the program from the desktop shortcut, an icon flashes very briefly in the Win10 taskbar, and then disappears, and PM does not appear.

Maybe I need to re-install it on C: (not in \Program Files or even on D:, where I had it under WinXP).

I'll give it a try.

This is exactly the issue: No flavour of \Program Files!

Thanks - yes, installing on C:\ did it.

I have some issues with porting my old MAIL folder across so that the new installation recognises the folder structure. All the folders are there, in their hundreds; but the filing trays have disappeared, which means that the individual folders are sorted alphabetically, not under the filing tray topics I had previously defined. Any idea how that structure can be restored?

Thanks again for the support!

The folder tree structure is maintained in a file named HIERARCH.PM.  Use of a HIERARCH.PM file from a previous install is typically not recommended but there are exceptions.  Please let us know how you have handled getting the mail data from the previous install to the new install so we can offer additional guidance.

Same problem. Was working for a few days then quit. (was on C) Reinstalled. Nothing. Had it pinned to the taskbar but decided to remove it and make it a shortcut. Shortcut didn't work. Put the direct link back. Still nothing.

I (mistakenly) thought nothing could be worse than Win8 and installed Win 10 on my Microsoft Surface Tablet. And Win10 migrated Pegasus (4.7 latest build) and Mailwasher and I've had no trouble (except for, if I remember, some whining about having to run something as Administrator). Since Mailwasher does all the work of removing unwanted messages for me I've never worked with Pegasus filters, but used the Win10 Surface exclusively for a few months while my desktop was being rebuilt and sent and received mail with and without attachments and linked pictures, etc. -- IOTW so far the Horse flies as reliably on the Tablet as here on my trusty Win7 desktop. I use POP exclusively, had no end of trouble with IMAP for some reason, both with my TapCis mail which was some kind of g-mail and with mail through my (local, independent) ISP.  And as usual when setting the mail accounts up hadn't gotten the parameters I wrote down right so had to fiddle around quite a bit.

Now you know everything I know about Pegasus and Win10.

I just got a desktop with win10 and all updates. Tried to download latest version of Pegasus from pmail.com. Got message saying 'signature W32-472 corrupt or invalid' so I chose 'delete' because I really don't know what I'm doing. I would hate to give up Pegasus so would like detailed step-by-step instructions on how to install pmail and migrate my files and folders from my old 32bit winXP machine.

Thanks!

The signature is fine. I saw the same message on my Win 7 system at work. Manually check the certificate using the Properties option available through the right-click menu on the installer.

This is Greek to me. Also once I get over this hurdle I'd like to find out how to migrate my email folders and files over from one computer(32bit winxp) to the other (64bit win10).THANKS!

In the General tab of my gmail SMTP host configuration I have the port set at 465

In the Security tab of my gmail SMTP host configuration I have selected...

- Via direct SSL connect
- Enable fingerprint certificate tracking (I don't believe this is required.  If you enable it, be prepared for routine notices about it changing.)
- Login to SMTP server using the following details (configured appropriately)

As for copying mail data from you XP machine you want to use the whitepaper available in the "Community downloads" section of the Downloads part of this site.  It's called "Pegasus Mail files to copy to a new system guide".  Here's the direct URL: http://community.pmail.com/files/folders/whitepapers/default.aspx

The key is to not overwrite any files.  Overwriting any one of the configuration files in the Win10 installation can (most likely will) break it.   Don't hesitate to post back with questions after you review the whitepaper.

Thanks Brian, that is a big help. I can now send/receive emails. Quick questions - do all the files I will be copying go into the one MAIL/ADMIN folder? Does Win10 warn me about overwriting a file like WinXP does?

THANKS!!!
