Windows 10 comes with a new browser called "Edge". Since I'm not sure what exactly is the issue (it might "only" be a problem with being strictly a 64bit browser) it may be enough to set it's Internet Explorer (which is still there but not the default one) as default in Windows and/or Pegasus Mail. If this doesn't work you might need to install a different one like Chrome or Firefox - if you don't use any of them anyway. If you already use a non-MS browser it should help to just switch the Windows default browser to IE and back to the alternative one you use.

I have just switched from Firefox to Chrome, and have the same problem. Clicking on links in e-mails just opens the desktop folders. Right-clicking on links gives me the option of using IE or Firefox, but not Chrome, although this is set as my default browser. Pegasus is set to "Find browser automatically, or web browser command line". I have tried specifying the command line for Chrome, but this doesn't help. Pegasus seems to be incapable of recognising Chrome as a browser. Is there some switch I have to use in the command line?

I'm using Windows 7 and PMail 4.70. I have tried setting IE as the default browser and then Chrome, as suggested here, but it makes no difference.

Is there any way I can get PMail to recognise tat Chrome is my default browser?

Please check whether the Registry contains an entry called "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Google Chrome\shell\open\command" - it should contain the proper command for launching Chrome. Hi Michael. I checked the registry, and the correct command line was there. I also checked the associations as suggested by Brian. Neither of these made any difference, so I set IE as the default browser and restarted my machine. When I then clicked on a link in an e-mail in Pegasus, I was surprised to find that CHROME opened and the page was displayed, until I remembered that I had previously inserted the command line for Chrome in Tools>Settings>Incoming Mail>Hyperlinks. Right-clicking on a link also shows Chrome as one of the browsers which can be selected. So the problem is solved Thank you!

While PMail runs well and links will open normally on my desktop PC, I encountered the same problem each time I copied its Mail folder to my laptop PC. I had had this problem ever since I switched to Win 10, and until today I had thought this was due to some corruption of my laptop system, but now the problem had reoccurred on a brand new Windows 10 1809 installation.

My default browser on both computer systems is Vivaldi; alongside there are Firefox, the MSIE and Edge. When I clicked on a link, a window listing the files stored on my desktop opened, the link, however, wouldn't be processed.

In Tools/Options/Incoming Mail/Hyperlinks; I tried both "Find Browser automatically" and inserting a link to the vivaldi.exe file in the "Web Browser commandline" (each with URLPROXY unchecked, of course), to no avail.

When I right-clicked on a link, I was offered the MSIE and Firefox, but not Vivaldi.

I eventually found the solution in copying the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Vivaldi\shell\open\command content with respect to Vivaldi from my desktop to my notebook PC (where there had been no such entry), in doing so proceeding as suggested in a posting to the thread http://community.pmail.com/forums/thread/45621.aspx where someone else had the same problem with Chrome.

What I would like to know now after hours of debugging efforts, is: who is to blame for this? Is it the authors of Vivaldi, or is this (yet another) intrinsic problem of Windows 10?

Windows 10 is notorious for resetting default apps.

... plus they really know how to make you believe in conspiracy. Here's the first MS-related post I found relating to this topic. It contains a box with a link supposedly pointing to Changes to how Windows 10 handles default apps - which doesn't work. Doing a search for this page results in finding a page titled Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10122 for PCs. The statement refering to our issue down that page then reads as follows:

We know your defaults matter to you. With Windows 10, all apps – both

Classic Windows apps and Universal Windows apps – will be unable to

invoke a prompt to change your defaults, only Windows. You remain in

full control of your default experiences, while reducing some of the

unwanted noise that multiple prompts can bring. [...]

We have had to do some compatibility work for Classic Windows apps

and you might see a new dialog box appear in the places where Classic

Windows apps previously asked you to set your default:

    gotosettings

This is mainly it. I haven't found out yet whether Windows 10 still uses the previous Registry entries at all. Details about former Windows versions can be found easily but not so about Windows 10 ...

I too am having this issue. I have Opera installed (my preferred browser), and if I click on a hyperlink, file explorer comes up. If I rt-click, I can select either Chrome (which is installed also) or IE. I tried setting the command line for the Opera launcher, but that seems to be ignored. Same happens if I ask to find automatically.

You need to use the commandline option to invoke Opera:

    C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera\launcher.exe

Please note that this is not a common way of invoking a product, as it does not invoke Opera.exe as per previous versions of Opera, instead it uses JSON.

First thing to try would be an update of IERenderer. Then go to Tools => Options => Hyperlinks in Pegasus Mail and try its options to see if you can get any of them working. I've recently changed internal browser list reading from the Windows Registry.

Irelam, Yes, I have done that. Clicking a link gives file explorer. rt-click gives options of Chrome (not the default browser) or IE. Odd that it does not invoke the command line, which I have just as you noted.

I just re-downloaded and installed 4.73. Oddly, SOME links will open in Opera, others only trigger file explorer (and those can rt-click to get displayed in Chrome. Really odd.

idw, Yes, I understand. But when I attempt to use the download button from http://community.pmail.com/files/folders/community_add-ons_for_pegasus_mail/entry24145.aspx#HowToUnpack, I get Web space not ready. Tried that in Opera, Chrome, and Edge.

Oh, I'm sorry, I'm just in the process of migrating all my homepage stuff since I had to switch the provider service from paid to free due to moving to a new home with different access options. I'll have to check this out and let you know once I've figured out how to fix it.

IER can only call browsers being properly registered in the Windows Registry which changed with each Windows version or major Windows 10 release (since there are no real version numbers anymore for adding to user confusion). I'll very likely get my download links fixed this weekend. It might be that IE and Chrome are registered for all Windows users while Opera is only registered for your current user assuming your running using on a restricted Windows user account.

    Michael,

Opera info is not in the Registry, either HKCU or HKLM product trees. They seem to rely on the execution located as I showed above.

    C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera\launcher.exe

    The registry entry is Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\OperaStable\shell\open\command
