I was so intent on creating a test mechanism that I never thought to look for a .PM$ file. Funny how the brain works (or doesn't in this case). Anyway, my entries in the .ini file are working.

I have Pegasus Mail installed on a flash drive and have attempted to get the temp directory used by Pegasus Mail to be on the flash drive as well but to date I have not seen any content in that temp location (\PM_TEMP). The pmail.ini file contains "Temporary files directory=\PM_TEMP" for all

identities. I assumed the root path would work but maybe not so I want to create some sort of test. I do not know the specific conditions under which the temp directory is used so would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction for creating some sort of test mechanism.

If someone has Pegasus Mail running on a portable usb device with the temp directory on it as well please share with me how you did it.

Is the Temp directory being used the EnvironmentalVariable definition which can be seen when using a Dos Cmd with the command SET which will show where the various Temp directories are.

I suspect that the directory tree should be specified as %temp%, which can be changed on the fly when a different drive needs to be used, ie flash drive

I don't want to be having to manipulate the system environment variable for TEMP each time I run Pmail from the usb stick. Besides, I have Pmail running from the stick all day long on my office PC. I don't want it's system temp variable pointing to a location on the stick.

I recall reading about a way to keep the Pmail temp files on the stick. The document was (written from a security standpoint but I can not find it. I think that changing the paths in the .ini was the recommended approach but I can not confirm whether is works hence the need for a test mechanism.

I have defined a temporary directory in PMAIL.INI to the homedirectory of the users on our servers. But that's with a driveletter. And it works fine. The environment of Windows tells applications in i.e. %TEMP% to use a temp-directory on lokal drive - it's ignored if defined in PMAIL.INI. You have to do it for every identity! But I don't use roaming so don't know if this entry is ignored by Pegasus in roaming mode.

Under normal circumstances you will not see any tempfiles (i.e. WPM*.PM$ or FILE*.*) of Pegasus when Pegasus is finished, because Pegasus normaly deletes them on close. Only if Pegasus crashes they will remain there. So have a look after opening some mails in Pegasus and Pegasus is running. There should be some files named WPM*.PM$.
