It is very strange that Pmail is the only application that is experiencing these problems.

As I said, it is as though Pmail cannot get the list of files in the Public Folder (but can access a file if it knows it should be there, like counters.pm).

There is something about this network server that makes Pmail fail, probably hard to reproduce without the specific hardware and firmware.
To be complete:
the one that works is Siemens Gigaset SX763
the one that does not work is Speedport W 724V

I have a strange problem with Public Folders on a network share:

I can create new Public Folder via Tools -> Public Folders on the share without problems, I can add new message folders, open them, copy emails to them.

However, when I open such a message folder in a Public Folder - it empties itself (emails disappear)!

Also, after restarting Pmail the Public Folders on that network share get the .MAI extension (yes, in the Pmail folder tree)! I can again create message folders that appear OK.

When I look into the counters.pm file (within a Public Folder's  xxxxx.MAI folder) it has always "Counters: 0 0". The pmfolder.id is OK too and there are (appropriate number of) *.cnr files (which contain emails I copied to the message folder).

So, all looks OK apart from - not working (OK, the Counters should not be 0 but it still does not work).

Just to mention that I have full and normal access to the share from Windows and other apps.

Did anyone see something like this before (and possibly has a solution)?

Tools > Public folders creates a public folder tree.  Subfolders should be created in the public folder tree (shows up as a mailbox in the folder list) using the "Add" button located in the folder list toolbar.  These folders are where the messages go.

I use Global attributes and they do work most of the time. But that is not the issue.

I do get the counters.pm file in every .mai folder, even on local disks.

The whole thing might be due to some access issues with the network server (router with NAS functionality actually) - I do have another one where the issue does not appear.

I think you are correct that there is something specific about accessing the public folders that is causing the problem although it is very strange that .MAI is appearing in the name in the folder list.  You said the pmfolder.id file is ok so I assume the .mai is not in there.

I suspect that the counters.pm file maintains the global attributes.  There should be something similar that maintains the personal attributes.  Logically it should be in the home mailbox directory but I can't identify it
