4.71 Queue Manager

Thank you for workaround.

David Harris: I confirm, that problem with Queue Manager is new for version 4.71. Sending through the "Send now" button does not work well and Queue Manager window is not refreshing.

We appreciate fix this.

Is anybody else noticing something strange with their Queue Manager on 4.71?

Although mails are sending OK they are not being deleted from the QM sub-window and that seems to be blocking new messages being listed on the QM.  To see what is currently in the queue rather than what was in the queue before the last send I have to shut QM and re-open it  It then behaves as described yet again.

Thanks

This issue has been identified.  Behavior is the same with the Draft Manager window.

Also identified is that the "Send now" button in the Queue Manager window is only converting the mail to final form.  It takes a send of final form messages for them to actually be sent.

I have identified sending of queued messages to occur when...

1)  a final form message is selected in the queue manager and the "Send now" button is clicked

2)  queued messages are sent during idle checks or via Send all queued mail

3)  sending a message without queueing

I'll check this out, and if necessary release an update.

Could someone confirm that this *didn't* happen in v4.70?

Cheers!

Thank you for picking up on this so quickly David : it didn't happen to me with 4.7 [or any earlier versions, just since I moved up to 4.71.

 Kind regards

The problem described by Mike Inkson does not occur for me in 4.70 on Win7 x64.

However, I am having the problem which Brian Fluet described. Specifically, with a message in the Queue Manager but _not selected_, clicking the "Send now" button does not send the message, and the status bar continually displays the message "SMTP: Preparing mail for sending..." The "Send now" button will actually send a message only if the message is selected.

For me, with a message selected, the "Send now" button only converts the message to Final Form.  I must then select the Final Form message and click the "Send now" button again.

Brian, how do you know if a message is in "Final form"?

Perhaps for comparison, messages in my Queue Manager are Type: Ready to send.

The "Ready to send" changes to "Final form".

Be aware that "Ready to send" messages get sent whenever the queue is processed by a method outside of the Queue manager (like sending during idle checks, sending before receiving, or any of the other manual Send options).

Thanks, Brian. That's interesting because any messages in my QM are only ever "Ready to send". I never see the type "Final form" including after selecting a message and clicking the Send now button.

Can confirm this, have experienced same problem as described by Brian Fluet, and this did definitely not occur with 4.70 which I have been using since it was released, always sending mails following the exact procedure Brian describes.

Normally, I see messages in the queue as "ready to send". The "final form" marker only appears after some kind of problem occurred while sending. But now with v. 4.71, after clicking 'send' from the queue window a first time, a problem ALWAYS seems to occur; and only after closing the queue window and opening it again, I see the message marked as 'final form'; clicking 'send' again on these final form messages DOES reult in them being sent.

ljchaper:  That is consistent with several other reports.

Scott Y:   I failed to mention that in v4.71 the Queue manager window does not auto-refresh.  It must be closed then opened for a refresh.

Background information about "Final form" messages, Pegasus Mail User Manual v4.41 (2008) page 130:

Queued mail is stored on your machine until you choose either Send queued messages or Check and
send mail, at which time it is written into final form and transmitted. Until the time it is actu-
ally sent, queued mail is stored in a special intermediate format which allows the message to
be reloaded and altered ... Occasionally you
may see a message in your queue marked [Final form]; this is a message which has been
written into transmission-ready format but which for some reason (usually a connection prob-
lem) has not actually been transmitted yet. Final form messages cannot be edited, only read
or deleted.

Exactly!  That is why it is one of the problems with the queue manager being discussed here.  The first click of the "Send now" button converts "Ready to send" messages to "Final form" but leaves them in the queue until another send request occurs.   This is not happening occasionally.  It has been consistently reproduced by a number of people.

Everything I described was for 4.70, confirming that the problems are unique to 4.71.

Accord, with what others have said:  I always have Internet Mail Options set to queue outbound messages, and I never see the [Final form] flag in 4.70 and earlier unless there has been a transmission hiccup on the send side, or unless there has been an inordinate processing delay in the MIME encoding of a humongous attachment.

Indeed, this is what happens consistently in 4.71, and NEVER happened in any of the previous versions.

Forgot to mention that I experienced this problem on a Windows 7 (64), as well as on a Windows 10 (64) AND a Windows XP (32) system.

I have the same problem with the Queue Manager:

Mail does not get sent when the send button is clicked, the status bar shows "preparing mail for sending", but nothing happens.

If you close and re-open the queue manager, and then press send the mail is sent.

If the File Menu choice "Send all Queued Mail" is clicked the mail is sent.

If "Send Mail Immediately"  is selected under Internet Options SMTP, the mail is sent.

The Queue Manager problem has appeared under 4.71, and was not there under 4.70.

We run our Pmail directly from our NAS Server (program and mail files) using a mapped drive. All our computers are Windows 10 64bit.

I've been experiencing the problem the last few days. I'm glad this forum's here to confirm that it's a Pegasus bug and not something more seriously wrong with my system.

When I want to modify an outgoing email in the cue and then press the "Send now" button it just hangs with a "SMTP: Preparing mail for sending" message at the bottom that just freezes there. I press "Send now" again and nothing happens. I close the Queue window and "SMTP: Preparing mail for sending" remains. Press "Send all queued mail" icon and it then sends properly.

I least it's only sending out one copy of the message as my initial fear was that it was being sent multiple times every time I pressed "Send now".

Still a BIG fan of Pegasus mail - hope it's fixed soon.
