Everything was working fine this morning - have it set to pull mail from 3 POP accounts every 5 minutes.
Got a notification that I have new mail while browsing the web - clicked on the Pegasus icon in the task bar (windows 10) and it would not open and display. Closed it by right clicking - then tried to start it again - get the welcome screen - see test scrolling at the bottom - restoring desk top - then nothing. Tried rebooting and system installed windows updates. Tried to run Pegasus again with no luck. Upgraded to latest version - still no luck. Copied entire pmail folder over to another drive - uninstalled pegasus - reinstalled and still won't work. Copied folder back over. It seems to be running in the background and checking for mail - just got a new mail notification. But will not display when I click on the icon. If I hover my mouse over the icon I can see a minimized version of it so it appears to be running - I then click on it and nothing happens - hover again and for the next minute or so it appears to be a grey box, then after a minute it once again shows a minimized pegasus screen.
I do think my deleted messages folder was quite large, but do not know which folder that is to try deleting it.
Has been working fine on this PC for a year since I bought it and copied pegasus from my previous machine.
Update - even though I was using control panel to uninstall Pegasus it was not removing the old folders/files, so I removed the entire PMAIL folder by hand, then installed the latest version and it worked - copied over the backup I made earlier - had a bunch of emails that I had deleted last night in the inbox, and some old search folders. But it is now working.
This happened again tonight. Would not display the Pegasus program - stays minimized on the task bar - but would give me an alert that I received a new message.
Made a backup of the c:PMAIL/Mail folder before I did anything.
Removed and re-installed Pegasus. Started copying over files that had been updated at the time of the issue and seem to have narrowed it down to something in the PMAIL configuration file that has all the identity/tcp in the [General] or [Pegasus Mail for Windows] sections. I removed the file - let it recreate it, then copied over everything else from the backup file and it all seems to be working fine for all my email accounts. All folders and messages are there.
Does anybody have any idea on what in the PMAIL Configuration file might cause this issue to occur?
In the [Pegasus Mail for Windows] section of the PMAIL.INI file are the entries that store the Pegasus Mail application window size and location. These include:
Application window frame is maximized =
Application window rectangle =
I suspect the Pegasus Mail application window is opening offscreen. Do you run this Pegasus Mail on different size, resolution, or dual monitors? If so, this can cause the problem you describe. There is a workaround so post back if this applies and you would like more information.
Thanks for the response Brian.
No - only one monitor attached to the computer. But that does sound like a good explanation of what could be happening. What is the work around so I can try it the next time it happens?
Thanks
There is a way to use two PMAIL.INI files which I do for when I run a flash drive installed Pegasus Mail on different PC's. I have one .ini for a hi-res widescreen and one for an old style 4:3. This won't help you if you don't switch between monitors.
The next time it happens I suggest shutting down Pegasus Mail, making a safety copy of the PMAIL.INI file, the modifying the "Application window rectangle =" entry to "Application window rectangle = 0 0 800 400". This will cause it to open in a small window, top, left.
If you run with the main window of Pegasus Mail maximized then also set "Application window frame is maximized = N".
Finally, make sure no AV product is actively scanning the \PMAIL\MAIL directory & subdirectories. They can interfere with the updating of the configuration files done by Pegasus Mail during startup and shutdown which could explain the occasional problem of the window size setting not be being correctly recorded in the .ini file during shutdown.
Also, another way to check if the window is off screen is to use alt-tab or Win-tab.
Another Q: Is your printer driver up to date? This is a long shot as the printer driver can affect how Pegasus Mail displays, if the driver is not fully compatible with the OS (i.e. up to date), it can cause this issue.
