I would like to move my addressbooks from old computer to newer (WinXP 32bit Peg4.63 to Win10 64bit Peg4.7) Is it just a case of copying folders to a USB stick and pasting to new 4.7 version on newer computer? Which folders/files do I need to copy? THANKS !!!

You can copy addressbook files from one installation of Pegasus Mail to another provided the filenames are unique.  As for which files to copy, see Han's Guide to Pegasus Mail Filenames and Extensions.  Find it here:  http://www.vandenbogaerde.net/pegasusmail/pf_pmfiles.htm.

If you need to determine the content of an addressbook file you can view it with a text editor.

Thanks Brian. That link doesn't work, unfortunately. Also not sure what you mean by 'provided the filenames are unique'. I've already installed V4.7 and started to build address books. Are you saying that this copying process won't work if there are duplicates? Seems impractical to sift through hundreds, if not thousands, of addresses to find duplicates. It is also a bit laborious to sift through a very long list of filename descriptions and extensions to find ones that look necessary to copy over. I was hoping to find someone who has done this before and can tell me what few file types are needed.

Just confirmed that the link no longer works.  Must now go to http://www.vandenbogaerde.net then follow the Pegasus Mail information link to the Filenames and extension link.

Addressbooks are .PMR/.PM! filename pairs but there could also be a .PM1 associated file depending on how old the mailbox is and how that addressbook was indexed.  This is detailed in Han's Guide.  Anyways, you should be able to copy an addressbook by copying its file pair from one mailbox to another.

My point about duplicate filenames is that it's possible that the same .PMR/PM! filename pair exists on both systems.  You need to be aware of that so as not to overwrite an existing one.  You probably want to avoid addressbooks with duplicated names as well (as named in Pegasus Mail).  The .PMR file contains the addressbook name (visible with a text editor).

Because of these issues no one can tell you exactly what steps to take but with a little luck you won't have any duplicates and can simply copy the files.

Thanks Brian, but ... There are .PMI files, .PMM files, .PM$ files, and a few .pm files, but don't see any .PM1 or .PMR files on the old computer.

It doesn't make any sense that you have addressbooks in Pegasus Mail but no .PM! or .PMR files in the home mailbox directory.

Consider using the Pegasus Mail addressbook export/import functions.  You can find them in the "Addressbook" pull down menu that appears when the addressbook window is open.
