Loss of identities etc after incomplete installation move

Ok, I've managed it now - on the fourth attempt - phew!

For the benefit of anyone else with a similar problem, I uninstalled Pegasus (this did not touch my mailbox curiously - but I had backed it up 'just in case' - be warned!) and then removed any other Pmail folder I had lying around (!). Running the installation, I unticked the box to create a new mailbox on the first attempt. This did not give me the correct install where I could see my lists. My next attempt allowed the creation of a new box but moved the 'contents' to my directory. This did not work correctly either.  What DID eventually work was to untick 'create new mailbox' AND untick 'roam' below it.  Presumably Pegasus did not like looking on the E drive but gave up and created a new one on the C regardless?

I think this means that the documentation is slightly wrong in that it refers to only unchecking the roam box when the 'physical' drive is different?  My experience shows that a different partition on the same physical drive is also a 'different' thing.

Anyway, all working correctly now with all my d-lists and sigs visible again.

 Cheers, Chris D

PS. Curiously, although the correct mail server definitions are there when I click 'add' the first visible definition was actually a redundant one!   hth

Ok, I've done it several times before but this time I got it wrong.

I have my main installation on my C: drive but keep the mailbox on my E: drive.

I did a clean installation on the 'new' C: drive and within the program, 'moved' the mailbox to my 'new' E: drive

When I open Pegasus (4.72 - same as previous version incidentally), all my folders are there and everything is fine EXCEPT my identities, signatures, address books and distribution lists are not visible.  In my previous installation they were all also in my E: drive mailbox. They are still there.  I have tried copying a couple of the files across to c:\...Mail\ (where the black and white lists DO exist and are visible within the program) but the copied lists do not appear.

 Please advise!

What you describe is very strange since the folder (which you see) reside in the same directory as the signatures, address book, dlists (which you don't see).  Identities are different.  They are maintained in the pmail.ini file.  If you were previously using the -Y command line option to specify a specific .ini file then you need to add that back.

In Pegasus Mail go to Help > About Pegasus Mail then click the Info button.  The resulting display will show the paths that are currently known to Pegasus Mail as your Home and New mailbox locations.  This info will help determine how to proceed.

If you haven't done much with the new install you might simply try renaming C:\PMAIL to C:\PMAIL_saved and then doing another clean install to C:\PMAIL being sure to enter your mailbox location on E: during the install.

Ok, its got weirder. This is was the info box says:

You will see the line c:\deuchar\mailbox ?  This has just appeared. Although a new mailbox has been created there, it is not where tools>options>mailbox thinks it is because that says E:\deuchar\mailbox !

This new  c:\deuchar\mailbox folder wasn't there before but now I find that if I copy one of my .PML files from the E: drive mailbox to the C: drive one then I *can* see it - so some sort of progress is happening, however (quite correctly) all my messages are still on the E: drive.  I just want the program to use the E: drive folder for lists etc too.

I do of course still have the C:\...Mail\admin folder version of some sort of mailbox - which I understand is the New Mail folder and cannot be moved?  However, I would like to 'rationalise' the other two into one on the E: drive.

I take your point about the identities and will investigate that separately

Thanks

 Chris d

Aha! I was wrong, the 'extra' mailbox was created at the same time as the installation.

I need to rethink this and lose this mailbox - probably easiest if I start again as previously suggested

:-(

 Thanks anyway.

Agreed.  It would be difficult to fix what you have now.
