PMail 4.73 released - update experience?

It isn't ... if you have PM473 installed in english :-) With that installation file new help is delivered and installed usable from within Pegasus.

So - /me and some other german guys here installed german Pegasus. With that distribution the new help system is delivered too - but not the corresponding PHC-File. Has some logic - Sven was not capable to translate yet (no criticism). And if you managed to get old help system running even on Win7/64 and central installation (which is a little bit tricky), german help version is available from within Pegasus (except "help on help"). But we too want to see the new help system ;-) So first found solution was to call it outside Pegasus. Nice - Germans too could have a look.

Finally Rütz managed to find out how PHC has to be renamed (-> wpm32de.phc) so Pegasus is using it even in german version (after a restart). At the moment it doesn't matter it is in english - i.e. Jörg and /me have multiuser environments with central installations and simply want to test before going productive. And hopefully our english is good enough to understand the help :-) And hopefully Sven manages to translate before we go productive so we can get rid of old help system for our users.

Hi All!  No loud cheering and hurray??

When I just randomly looked over the PMail forum and the last threads, I did realize that there were no news about the update, which was announced 2 months ago. <grumble, grumble> 

Before quitting the whole thing, I accidentally took a look at the PMail homepage....
And there <HOLY GRAIL!> was the 4.73!
And the devnews from DH from June 7th.

I nearly would've  missed the update (for a while) because of the forum is quiet as death.
Gentlemen!!

So it's on me (but it should'nt me!) to open a thread about 4.73.
Asking:
1. what about the user experiences updating 4.72 to 4.73?
2. Any first user impressions on the all new HELP-System?

Interesting information ...   I'm wondering that the download list at this website (Community Pmail Downloads) is not being maintained since a long time.

I will update our multi-user Pmail installation as soon as I find time (and no user is disturbing me [:D])

But what about Mercury? In our case Mercury is connecting to our ISP. What about an update of the Mercury SSL libraries? Or is this not necessary as well?

Extract from the v4.73 change log: "New OpenSSL build  This version includes OpenSSL v1.0.2n,

a recent release with numerous fixes and with new capabilities such as

support for Perfect Forward Secrecy ..."

The announcement about v4.73 was made on the discussion list.  It takes a long time for this site to be brought current and the newest version made available to download.  Next time, I'll try to remember to post here if there's an announcement on the discussion list that isn't posted here

FWIW, there haven't been any widespread issues reported when upgrading to v4.73.

i'am really glad, that there still is development on Pegasus, which i use since the mid 90th.

I had no issues with the update, in fact see no difference.

But... i see no new HELP-System ??
It still has the old xxx.hlp Files and HELP does not work on Windows7 or newer...
Did i got something wrong..?

I don't think you will notice any differences other than the Help system which works for me on both Win7 and Win10.  An exception is Help > Using help which didn't work in v4.72 either.

If your Help > About Pegasus Mail menu item works use it to confirm version v4.73.639.  If confirmed, click the Info button and let us know what it shows for the path to the Home and New mailbox locations.

So I was distributing fake news in the Usenet mailreader group!

Would've be kind to tell the lack of translations to the users of foreign language versions (what about the french Pmail?) BEFORE they do the update; e.g. DH devnews: "HELP translations are still in process"

It always depress me to see the very OLD "Latest News" when entering the community home page.
Would really NOT time-consuming to put the new "News" out there.  
Is Peter Stroemblad still the maintainer?
Or who else is responsible?

Yep, switched to "english" and voilá, there is the new HELP !

I wonder, if there is an option to have the german program version with the new english help system...

Nothing special about help files, just rename the English Bearhtml help, ie bearhlp-en.htm to  bearhlp-de.htm 

Same for IERenderer  rename  BearHlpIE-En.htm to BearHlpIE-De.htm Just remember to rename them back to English version when the German version is released

 The main Pegasus Mail help file is English only at this time but international versions will follow after the translation team completes the reworkings

This evening I've sucessfully updated our multi-user network installation to v4.73 (full german version) without any problems. Only the help is still not working like before. The help files are effectively read-only. The only thing that might happen is if the server gets multiple requests at the same time, it will handle any queueing of the fetching of the pages.

What I haven't seen discussed and I think is needed is an explanation of what help system related files changed in v4.73.  The bearhlp files are specific to the renderers so aren't the files invoked by the Pegasus Mail help system.  It would be beneficial to know what files make up the help system in the English v4.73 version vs. in English v4.72 and German v4.73.

In see a new file named SHOWHELP.EXE in the English v4.73 that isn't in English v4.72 but am clueless as to its purpose.

       Did you notice the article in the Pegasus Mail FAQ quorum regarding Winhlp32.  It will avoid the stupid link back to Microsoft when invoking HELP files.

In german version the wpm32de.hlp (made of 2 May 2018) and the showhelp.exe (made of 19 March 2018) are new. I assume that the standard Pmail help content is in wpm32de.hlp. All other hlp files are older.

Unfortunately the german version doesn't contain the new wpm32en.hlp. So I'm not able to rename it to "de" for testing. On the other hand I don't know whether the new (english) help file is applicable to the old german help system as long as the translation work for the new help file is not yet finished.

yes, I remember darkly .... Microsoft has changed it's help system and since then the "old" help files didn't work anymore.

But everytime a new Pmail update appears I test all functions and fail on the help system again. Seems I have to patiently wait for the translation.

I just compared the names and time stamps of the .hlp files in my English installs of v4.73 and the backup copy of v4.72 before updating and they're the same but my v4.73 definitely displays the new help content.  Something other than .hlp files appears to be involved.
